This Biography is part of an MA research project. Detailed interviews and research has been conducted. I intend to publish further biographical content by living artists and their historically significant project that are not yet referenced and archived on wikipedia. I tried to reference as detailed as possible to projects internally and externally. Any other advice by an editor how to proceed would be appreciated. Removing unreliable sources and answer to presumed CoI

edit

Hello Netherzone, here are two reactions to your issues flagged on 3 January: 1) As an independent editor, I have just removed three sources from the text referring to self-published sources and moved them to External links. (One pdf-file, two videos) Now, I don't see any unreliable sources any more. 2) You also flagged a possible CoI, which I see on this talk page having been raised in July 2020. - As I don't see any reason for this and the original editor Photographichistory has not responded to this vague suspicion since 2020, I think we should AGF and remove both hatnotes. - What do you think about this? Hi @Munfarid1, nice to hear from you, and thanks for your note.
To my way of thinking, the article still needs some more work. I think the “Editorial work” section should be removed, as it’s rather resumé-like, don’t you think? Seems like a listing of job skills rather than focusing on biographic content. IMO, this material belongs on his own website, not in an encyclopedia article. He is a very good artist who has done a lot of interesting things, and a better quality WP article would be in the best interest of both the encyclopedia readership and him.
One of the scripts I use to detect low-quality sources is flagging several sources.
  • “Our RISD” is a Tumblr Blog for alumni. (orange flag)
  • Douban.com is a churnalism blog-like website, mainly to sell consumer products, and I can’t find his name mentioned (red flag)
  • Cafa.com.cn - I can find no mention of him, nor on a site-wide search
  • jabotarungyogyakarta.blogspot.com is a Blogspot blog - unreliable and I don’t see his name at all. (red flag)
  • Photography of China is mostly user-submitted content. The script is flagging it orange, and when I search for hiis, nothing comes up, so his subscription to “advertise” his portfolio may have expired. It’s mainly a site to “sell your photobooks”, “purchase prints” “submit your work”, “feature your event”, or “hire us” (for PR).
  • Endangered archives blog - is a blog and is flagged orange.
Some of the sources do not support the content at all. Perhaps because they are old, expired, or incorrect. For example, the University of West London source does not mention him at all, and when I do a search on their website, it comes up cold. Same with the Bundeskanzleramt source, and others.
Many of the sources are good, so the poor-quality ones should be removed along with the content they support (and replaced with a reliable source.) Then I think it will be ok to remove the maintenance tags. Best of regards to you, Netherzone (talk) 19:59, 4 February 2024 (UTC)Reply
Hi @Netherzone, just a quick answer to your helpful remarks: I agree and will follow your advice in the next few days. Only one observation: The Endangered archives blog is from the British Library, so it is reliable according to our rules, if my memory is correct. Thanks for your appreciation and help in making this article even better. Best regards and enjoy editing, Munfarid1 (talk) 20:46, 4 February 2024 (UTC)Reply
Good to know about Endangered Archives blog's British Library affiliation. It is the word "blog in their URL, blogs.bl.uk that is triggering the script to flag it. Thank you for catching that. I too will try to work on it in the next few days. See you around, Munfarid. Netherzone (talk) 21:48, 4 February 2024 (UTC)Reply
Hi again, I have just gone over all the unreliable sources you mentioned. I deleted some of them, where there is a RS supporting the statement. For others, especially for his studies at West London University and RISD, I could not find anything we can use. For the moment, I have flagged these unreliable sources, so no other editor will have to check them before either finally deleting or replacing them. Also, I have added a paragraph about his latest project about alaminüt photography in Turkey, and added two new sources. - For the moment, this seems all we can do to improve the quality of the unsourced statements. - What do you think: Can we at least delete the hatnote about the unfounded COI? Munfarid1 (talk) 20:07, 12 February 2024 (UTC)Reply
Hi @Munfarid1, sorry I haven't found the time to work on this article. I do want you to know that I deleted a Blogspot source and added a CN tag in the section that needs more sources. Go ahead and delete the COI tag if it really bothers you; I think of maintenance tags as a heads up to editors in the community that more eyes are needed, but not everyone considers them the same way.
