Article move and deletion request

edit

Following discussion with Nortynort, I've moved this entry over to the Mekong River Basin Hydropower page. Can I please request its deletion? Rechmaduong (talk) 11:25, 24 January 2011 (UTC)Reply

Well, not similarly to some other articles you created, this project seems to be notable and by my understanding serves its own article. Beagel (talk) 11:29, 24 January 2011 (UTC)Reply
After talking with Beagal, I agree with his particular removal of the proposed-deletion tags from this article, Sambor Dam, Stung Treng Dam (which I added some references too) and two others. If the proposed deletion tag still isn't on the article then there is no longer an effort to delete it.--NortyNort (Holla) 12:05, 24 January 2011 (UTC)Reply

Name

edit

I wonder if the spelling of the name should be 'Sesan' instead of 'Se San'. The spelling 'Se San' seems to come from the Vietnamese sources while in English it usually transcribed from Cambodian sources as 'Sesan'. Also the relevant district is called Sesan District.

Another question is if we should use Lower Sesan or Han Sesan? Beagel (talk) 07:51, 2 October 2011 (UTC)Reply

Mekong floodings and the current climate change

edit

Hi.

There are now several wiki-pages on Mekong damming projects, which is fine imo. But I don't see any mention or discussion of these projects in relation to the devastating floodings that occurs every year all over the Mekong region. They are already severe and kills people each year and with the current climate change floodings will only increase in the near future. It is important to discuss and mention this in relation to all the damming projects for several reasons. Here are two important ones:

  • The damming project is also an effort to curb the floodings and prepare for the bleak future in and around the Mekong. They are not only meant for producing electricity, but also to safeguard the population and surrounding countryside, which includes a lot of farmland and villages.
  • The current climate change already have, and will increasingly have, a major impact on the Mekong region. Both the infrastructure, the towns, the villages, the agricultural sector, the fishing industry and the dam reservoirs as well. Even without describing how the dam projects tries to tackle the flooding problem, these effects needs to be included, for they will affect the dam projects no matter what.
