Bank of New York Mellon

Not sure if it qualifies, but the name remained in part. It was a merger between Bank of New York and Mellon Financial Corporation. Bowne & Co

Some Basic Facts

This article does not include the Hudson's Bay Company, yet the article on that company claims, in the lead, that HBC is, "the oldest commercial corporation in North America." For all I know there might be some highly specific meaning of, "commercial corporation" and "company" being employed here, but common sense would suggest that it either is the oldest company and should be on this list article or it isn't and the lead of the other one needs to be edited. One of these two articles has to be wrong. Cottonshirtτ 05:06, 28 November 2013 (UTC)

Wawa belongs on this list. They were founded in 1803 as the R.D. Wood company producing iron products. They bought a dairy about 100 years later then, in 1964, opened their first store. Now they're a store but it's the same business, owned by the same family, the Wood family. The Bank of New York

Hello, I'm here to suggest that this list include The Bank of New York, which was established in June 1784 and is known today as The Bank of New York Mellon.

This list states, "To be listed a brand or company name must remain, either whole or in part since inception, and should have been established before 1820". I believe that applies in this case.

Full disclosure: I am posting this suggested edit for BNY Mellon as part of my work at Beutler Ink. I keep my Wikipedia contributions where I have a financial conflict of interest on Talk pages rather than directly edit entries, so I am hoping editors will review and make this update if it seems reasonable. Marshall Elevator

The linked Wikipedia article for this elevator company (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Marshall_Elevator) says that it was acquired by Otis in 2011, and the external link to the company's website is flagged as "dead link." J.E. Rhoads & Sons

I'd like to remove J.E. Rhoads. I assume that the company is still on this list because they were bought out when they closed in 2009. However, from what I can tell, the only remnants of the business are two brand names that are being used by the new company. Does that qualify the old company to remain on this list?

Zildjian

Zildjian was founded in 1623 but didn't relocate to America until 1910. Do those 287 years still count as being an American company? Seem odd. BUPetey (talk) 18:38, 16 August 2019 (UTC)

Avedis Zildjian Company

Istanbul was still named Constantinople when this company was founded. Even the Wiki article for the company notes it was founded in Constantinople. The company moved before the name change to Istanbul became "official" in 1930. 198.189.159.250 (talk) 04:07, 3 March 2023 (UTC)
