The current list is very unbalanced with much lower magnitude earthquakes and/or lower intensity events included in more recent years - 44 in the last 20 years compared to 27 in the 20 years before that, 19 in the 20 years before that and 31 in the 350 years before that. In common with other "by country" lists, this list should be restricted to earthquakes over magnitude 6 or that have significant impact on the country in terms of damage or deaths/injuries. Following discussion elsewhere I propose that we start by cutting this article down using the criteria: magnitude ≥6.0 and/or maximum intensity ≥VI and/or significant damage (collapsed buildings not a few cracks in masonry) and/or casualties (deaths or major injuries requiring hospitalisation). I'll make a start on this later today, unless anyone objects, which given the lack of response to the preceding comment, seems unlikely. Mikenorton (talk) 09:15, 14 May 2024 (UTC)Reply

I've just located a new source McCann et al 2010, which identifies some of the listed events as non-existent, such as the 1717 earthquake. I will go through our reduced list and remove/add as appropriate. Mikenorton (talk) 15:59, 14 May 2024 (UTC)Reply
