Wikipedia:WikiProject Earthquakes

Welcome to WikiProject Earthquakes, a collaboration area and group of editors dedicated to improving the coverage of earthquake-related articles. This WikiProject aims to enhance information on earthquakes, aftershocks, seismology, seismologists, tectonic plates, and related articles. For more information on WikiProjects in general, please see Wikipedia:WikiProject and the Guide to WikiProjects.

All articles about earthquakes, aftershocks, seismology, seismologists, plate tectonics, and related articles. Earthquake impact on structures is covered in earthquake engineering. Please feel free to join the project and expand its scope in any necessary directions.

  • Where possible, use {{M}} for reporting Earthquake magnitudes rather than subscripts, for example {{M|L}} instead of ML or ML. Subscripts are required in citations that already use templates and <math> markup is used when magnitudes are part of a larger mathematical expression.

RyRy (talk · contribs) Mostly baseball. But for earthquake related things, mostly earthquakes that have a lot of history to them. I mostly would like to create new earthquake related articles, and then nominate them for WP:DYK at Template talk:DYK. If you need any earthquake that you think has a lot of history to it, ask me to create it. Or of you want me to review an article for DYK, you may ask me also.
Haha169 (talk · contribs) 2008 Sichuan earthquake and working on writing/saving 2008 Chino Hills earthquake. Although I'm not a contributor to any other quake articles, feel free to ask me to leave a peer review or other "PR" type things, and I'll be happy to do so. Nominated 2008 Sichuan earthquake at WP:GAN, successfully promoted and became the fourth Earthquake GA.
MChew (talk · contribs) Will start work on earhquakes and other natural disasters of pre-1945 Japan

★ Auree talk Enjoy writing about geophysics and seismic activity. Have created three earthquake articles so far, and have contributed significantly to several other geology-related articles (2011 Lorca earthquake, Idosawa Fault).
Bruvtakesover (talk · contribs) Love writing about earthquakes, mainly recent ones and updating lists.
Rifled (talk · contribs) Mostly recent ones and major ones (e.g., 2011 Christchurch earthquake)
Dawnseeker2000 (talk · contribs) Developing some of the articles that are thin on content or sources. Historical earthquakes are fun to work on too I have no formal training in geology so my prose is limited to a "just the facts" style of writing. But finding sources for these articles is satisfying also.

Dustin V. S. (talk · contribs) Intraplate earthquakes, megathrust earthquakes, earthquakes in general, tsunamis (which are commonly caused by earthquakes) I have felt hundreds of sub-5.0 MW earthquakes (and a few higher than that) and I am curious about the seemingly inevitable damaging one. I find the subject of seismology interesting, and I hope to help out this WikiProject.
Krit-tonkla (talk · contribs) Earthquakes in Thailand
alataristarion (talk · contribs) I am interested in plate tectonics. I have been working on cleaning up the articles on tectonic plates to reflect the current state of scholarship, including adding references and better maps.
Gorthian (talk · contribs) I'm interested in geological hazards of all kinds; I've been focused on landslides a lot, and they kind of go hand-in-hand with earthquakes. Plus I live in California. :-) My attention can be flighty; my edits are mostly gnomish.
NoGhost (talk · contribs) Mostly interested in major or significant earthquakes in Asia, particularly in China, Pakistan, and Iran.
ampuero (talk · contribs) Caltech seismology professor. Editing pages on fundamental concepts and phenomena in seismology.
Shearenergy (talk · contribs) Interested in earthquakes, earthquake-related hazards, New Zealand earthquakes, subduction zone earthquakes, slow slip, tectonic tremor, plate tectonics, earthquake physics, and seismology. Editing pages to better reflect current research, improve maps and data presentation, and hoping to highlight global and regional earthquake databases.
HueMan1 (talk · contribs) Earthquakes in the Philippines
Rao.anirudh (talk · contribs) Earthquake risk researcher at the Global Earthquake Model Filling out and updating articles on earthquakes that are missing some information. I'll also be translating earthquake entries that are exclusively in the Italian Wikipedia to English.
Webecoolalasdair (talk · contribs) A university student in the United States pursuing a degree in geology and ultimately seismology. At the moment, I am not as active as I would like to be due to school, but am as much as I can be. I have always had a passion for the earth sciences and will do my best to contribute as much as possibleAt the very least, I intend to study earthquakes as a professional. I wish to improve upon existing earthquake articles, as well as make articles for historical earthquakes that are notable, have been overlooked by the rest of Wikipedia. These events are usually moderately sized, between magnitude 4 and 7, and may or may not be historical. These events are more likely to be forgotten about by most, but are of high importance, especially if they occurred in uncommon places, are significant to the epicentral region or the scientific community, or had some kind of significant effect distinguishing them from most other run-of-the-mill earthquakes.
GyozaDumpling (talk · contribs) I like seismology and geophysics. I edit all around Wikipedia but in the past year, my main focus has been earthquake articles.
