Why was all my hard work undone? edit

I spent ages going through the lists of missions to update this page and it was undone. Was this accidental? I shall revert, but please explain why you would undo my hard work. Thanks. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 59.167.179.114 (talk) 02:38, 3 June 2011 (UTC)Reply

Hello
Honorary consulates are generally not accepted as diplomatic missions in the wiki-lists because they do not enjoy usual diplomatic privileges. Honorary consulates are often headed by local citizens who do not receive pay for their services (nor enjoy diplomatic protection). As a rule of thumb, missions which are run by staff who are posted by the sending country may generally be included into the lists.
Best wishes,

High Commissions edit

I believe the following diplomatic missions are incorectly listed as Embassies instead of High Commisions. My understanding is that Commonwealth members have High Commisions not Embassies: Brunei, Cyprus, Fiji, Kenya, Malaysia, Mauritius, Nigeria, Pakistan, Papua New Guinea, Samoa, Soloman Islands and Sri Lanka. I don't know if this should be added in Italics at the bottom, or at the least leave it on here, but in the fictional Star Trek future, circa 2150s the Vulcans have an Embassy in Canberra. (Mentioned in "Terra Prime" if needed). -AJHalliwell 7 July 2005 02:02 (UTC)

I think this page should be moved to diplomatic missions which encompasses the concept of High Commissions as well - any opinions?--A Y Arktos (Talk) 07:05, 5 November 2005 (UTC):Reply

A further thought - I think there is also a potential article on diplomatic representation in Canberra - ie this article should not be merely a list but should be called Diplomatic missions in Canberra. It could then deal with the growth of diplomatic representation and link to Australian foreign relations. The article would incorporate the list.--A Y Arktos (Talk) 07:12, 5 November 2005 (UTC)Reply
I wouldn't try to inlcude the list in an article. Lists seem to be progresivly more frowned apon in articles these days. It would greatly limit it's chances of ever getting to featured level. If "diplomatic missions" is a more correct tyerm then this should probably be moved. --Martyman-(talk) 07:14, 5 November 2005 (UTC)Reply

It would be great to have articles on some of these. Australia seems to be lagging behind the rest of the Anglosphere with Category:Embassies in Washington, Category:Embassies and High Commissions in Ottawa, and Category:Embassies and high commissions in London all having a number of entries - SimonP 19:21, 9 November 2005 (UTC)Reply

Well here's the US one, thats a start --Astrokey44 04:36, 28 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

Discussion at WP:FOR on formatting and content of "List of diplomatic missions" article edit

There is now a discussion at WP:FOR on the formatting and content of "List of diplomatic missions" articles. As this discussion ostensibly could affect this article, editors are encouraged to provide their opinions on the WP:FOR at this link - Wikipedia_talk:WikiProject_International_relations#Formatting_of_diplomatic_missions_lists - please do not discuss on this article talk page as valid points for consideration may very well not be seen by editors at large. Mongolia edit

The map is wrong with respect to Mongolia - Mongolia has a consulate-general in Sydney which represents New South Wales only. Its embassy to Australia, though, is located in Beijing. JRG (talk) 06:29, 23 August 2008 (UTC)Reply

No, it is an honorary consulate. These articles do not include details of honorary consulates. Kransky (talk) 13:54, 23 August 2008 (UTC)Reply

Images edit

@Nomisztif: I think that you've added an excessive number of images to the article. The fact that you are forcing their sizes to be smaller indicates this, and doing this unnecessarily is not helpful for readers. I note that it appears that you created many if not all of these images, and it is not good practice to add excessive numbers of one's own images. Could you please self-revert, or at least trim the number of images to a more manageable amount? Nick-D (talk) 07:19, 8 May 2021 (UTC)Reply

Rebuild edit

This article will be undergoing a rebuild shortly. Please preferably do not make any edits during this time, and if you have suggestions please reply to this section and I will enact on them. HoHo3143 (talk) 06:51, 19 January 2023 (UTC)Reply

Converting to a table format, with a photo of each mission and key facts about it, might work well Nick-D (talk) 07:36, 19 January 2023 (UTC)Reply
Good suggestion. I'm using List of diplomatic missions of Taiwan as a base. I've finished Victoria so far with a lot to go. HoHo3143 (talk) 13:05, 19 January 2023 (UTC)Reply
You do not understand the difference between a "consulate-general" and "honorary consulate". The list you've created lists only honorary consulates which are not included in the articles. Honorary consulates are not diplomatically appointed and are usually a host country national who may refer a person to the country's embassy in the capital city (i.e. Canberra). Your changes to the article will be resisted by seasonal editors of this article. Aquintero82 (talk) 07:06, 19 January 2023 (UTC)Reply
Honorary consulates are *not* diplomatic missions, which is the title of the page. These additions of honorary consulates should be removed since they are factually wrong. Alternatively, you could place the content in a separate page entitled 'Consular missions in Australia' or 'Honorary consuls in Australia'. Sir Tanx (talk) 09:44, 11 February 2023 (UTC)Reply
@Sir Tanx @Aquintero82 whilst normally I'd agree, DFAT feature all types of foreign representatives accredited to Australia on their website. This list is what I've used throughout the article. HoHo3143 (talk) 10:04, 11 February 2023 (UTC)Reply
