HMS Invincible status
editI don't wish to get into a flame war over semantics but the Royal Navy states that "Invincible can be deployed should the need arise and that navy policy assumes that it is still an active aircraft carrier."
Therefore, the ship is still active, as defined by the Royal Navy. End of story. (CrackDragon (talk) 04:06, 18 January 2009 (UTC))
- Source? Link would be the best. As I've understood it from the Invincilbe article, it would take 18 moths to get the ship ready. That's not what "active" means to most people. - BillCJ (talk) 04:13, 18 January 2009 (UTC)
- The Royal Navy states that HMS Invincible, although being held at a low level of readiness is still very much part of the fleet and remains available. The fact that she would take several months to return to full service therefore, strictly speaking, doesn't make her status inactive. And also, this page is entitled List of aircraft carriers by type. Therefore all available carriers (ie unless disposed of, stricken or under construction) should be listed, INCLUDING those in reserve.

- Actially, there is a line that states: "There are three main types of aircraft carrier in service in the worlds navies". I'd say that excludes those in reserve. Anyhoo, if we are going to include it in the list, its status needs to be made clear that it is at a "low level of readiness." - BillCJ (talk) 04:42, 18 January 2009 (UTC)
- Or the criteria for inclusion needs to be made more clear! If only ships ready to go are to be included, then that should be made more clear. As it stands, all carriers that are afloat and ready to fight, or can be made ready to fight in a relatively short time should be included, by my interpretation. —Preceding unsigned comment added by CrackDragon (talk • contribs) 04:44, 18 January 2009 (UTC)
Name
editShouldn't this be called List of in-service aircraft carriers by configuration ? Since this doesn't list out of service carriers... 70.49.124.147 (talk) 08:39, 21 April 2012 (UTC)
