Talk:List of U.S. metropolitan areas with large African-American populations

PMSA

edit

This list of metropolitan areas includes, without definition or explanation, repeated instances of the initials PMSA, wikilinked in the first instance and redirecting to United States metropolitan area, where MSA is spelled out and defined but PMSA is not.

A broader wikisearch turned up Public Monuments and Sculpture Association and Presbyterian and Methodist Schools' Association, both of which seemed unlikely. Finally, in the third paragraph of Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky metropolitan area, it was clarified as Primary Metropolitan Statistical Area, redirecting there, just as PMSA does here, to United States metropolitan area.

It is extremely odd when a specific technical term redirects to a page which says nothing about it. Would someone who finds these terms meaningful, and uses them knowledgeably, please clarify their use where appropriate, i.e., in articles which contain the term, and particularly where they have been used without explanation in redirects? Thank you.

These numbers are innacurate. The Atlanta metro area has a larger black population than Los Angeles. Whoever changed this to be cool needs to grow up.

Grossly inaccurate. The numbers for Jackson, MS are from the 1980 census; Jackson's 2000 numbers are something like 186000 pop and 70% black.

The Detroit entry must be wrong. The African American population is listed at 900,000+, but the percentage of African Americans is listed at 18% or so. The entire population of the city of Detroit is about 950,000. I think the African American population percentage in Detroit is around 90%. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 76.247.156.35 (talk) 00:22, 14 April 2008 (UTC)Reply

In The Atlanta metropolitan area blacks make up 35% of the population, black make up 28% the state of Georgia who has change Atlanta to 28% too? Trying be to funny! In the 2004 Census data California make up 6.2 of the black population in country. Georgia makes up 7.7% of the black population in the country. With saying that Metro Atlanta makes over half the state. California divides its 6.2 share of blacks: Los Angeles, The Bay Area and the other large metros of the state. Its common sense this article inaccurate! Even going by percentages LA 7.7% of 13 ATL 35.2% of 5.5 even this article inaccurate ATL 28.9% is still more than LA if you do the math! The guy above clearly doesn’t know what he is talking about, made be he's the one who changed the article, don‘t know! Can someone please put references and link cause people change thing according to them! —Preceding unsigned comment added by 70.245.144.162 (talk) 22:24, 29 October 2009 (UTC)Reply
