Talk:List of The Adventures of Tintin locations

Merger proposal edit

I propose that Settings in The Adventures of Tintin be merged into List of The Adventures of Tintin locations. There is too much overlap among the two, and the name of the latter article is the standard naming convention for list articles, which both currently are. The latter article is of a reasonable size that the merging of the former will not cause any problems as far as article size or undue weight is concerned. The ultimate plan is a Featured Topic containing the main article and at least two others: List of The Adventures of Tintin characters and List of The Adventures of Tintin locations. Please leave your agreement for the merge here. Thank-you! —Prhartcom (talk) 03:44, 25 July 2013 (UTC)Reply

Agreed. Thanks very much for your support, both of you. With your positive reinforcement, this is going to be a well-respected Featured Topic someday. Again, thank-you; it's good to know we have some experts working on this. We'll get there. —Prhartcom (talk) 19:25, 18 August 2013 (UTC)Reply

Ref needed for two harbours edit

If a contributor thinks I was wrong to include Le Havre, why not remove this harbour from https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Secret_of_the_Unicorn#Influences ONaNcle (talk) 18:18, 10 November 2013 (constructedUTC)

Hello, ONaNcle, thanks for your enthusiasm, it is truly appreciated. This article is a list of fictional locations in The Adventures of Tintin (and should be expanded). Le Havre, according to the Influences section of The Secret of the Unicorn article, is the 1690 construction location of the non-fictional Le Brillant. I think you see now the difference. Please do consider researching secondary sources or the Tintin adventures and contributing additional locations Tintin travels in his adventures. Cheers. Thank you for your kind remarks ; I do agree I've found neither a single secondary source about Le Havre dealing with Tintin adventures... nor with my other harbour edit. ONaNcle (talk) 21:26, 10 November 2013 (UTC)Reply

List of The Adventures of Tintin locations ==> List of locations in The Adventures of Tintin edit

Why? The title reads so awkwardly to me ... Curly Turkey (gobble) 01:47, 11 November 2013 (UTC)Reply

  • Oppose Support. As nominator. I considered opposing, but then my self-esteem perked up. Onanism has destroyed my self-esteem once again. Curly Turkey (gobble) 01:47, 11 November 2013 (UTC)Reply
  • Oppose. Both titles are misleading when compared with the original French title. ONaNcle (talk) 06:22, 11 November 2013 (UTC)Reply
    • I admit I hadn't looked closely at the English list, nor had I clicked through to the French list—not that the French list should have anything to do with how we name things on the English Wikipedia. Curly Turkey (gobble) 07:58, 11 November 2013 (UTC)Reply

List of The Adventures of Tintin locations ==> List of fictional locations in The Adventures of Tintin edit

Hello CT and ONaNcle. A few things first: You will probably agree that, whatever the title, it should match the title of the Tintin Characters article, even if that title becomes renamed. Second, let's consider that these articles have been renamed before, consensus deciding upon the current title (previous titles included Characters of The Adventures of Tintin and Minor characters in The Adventures of Tintin (I'm glad they were renamed; I hope you agree). Third and fourth, it would be great to let the Manual of Style: Stand-alone lists and the consensus decisions of other editors who titled similar articles be our guide; I imagine you both agree. Now please allow me to attempt to logically think this through: The words of the titles of these Tintin list articles should certainly begin with the words "List of", as stated in the MOS. The words of the title should also certainly include the actual title of the Tintin series, although it is a bit of a shame that the words The Adventures of Tintin is a bit unwieldy; however I believe we cannot change that in any way (I cannot picture myself arguing with Hergé himself that we should shorten his title) so we are stuck with those words in their entirety. Also thinking logically: Simpler is better; let us ensure the title is as short and simple as possible, so let us leave out all words from the title that do not have these two criteria. We leave out all other seemingly helpful words from the title, especially since those helpful words, if omitted from the title, can be mentioned right away in the article lead. Where are we so far? Continuing to think logically, we are here: "List of The Adventures of Tintin..." We obviously need one more word to differentiate the various Tintin list articles, so we are now here: "List of The Adventures of Tintin characters" and "List of The Adventures of Tintin locations". I think we can see now why previous consensus named the current articles precisely that. Please note that I reached this decision logically, and I do not have my ego on the line in any way. Now for my personal opinion: I have admired the Featured Topic Tokyo Mew Mew. Ignoring the subject of the topic, they did a fine job creating one Featured Article and three Featured List articles, including "List of Tokyo Mew Mew characters" and "List of Tokyo Mew Mew episodes" (click the Featured Topic link and search for this and other fine examples of Featured Lists, such as "List of Naruto chapters"). Bearing all this in mind, my vote is to simply merge the two Tintin location articles as stated above and keep the current name of the Tintin characters article. Additional comment: This may go without saying, but the resulting list articles should have all Tintin characters and all Tintin locations, i.e. not omitting the real characters and the real locations. They should also contain not just the bare lists and brief descriptions but also some well written and properly cited prose. Prhartcom (talk) 15:54, 12 November 2013 (UTC)Reply
