Diana Argon edit

Why does it say on this page she's Russian ancestry yet on her wiki page it clearly states are father was only born in Russia but of Jewish stock. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2602:306:C4EA:CA0:C93A:D033:C4AF:C5FE (talk) 21:38, 21 September 2013 (UTC)Reply

Ethnicity lists discussion edit

Please see discussion at Wikipedia:Village pump (policy) for current discussion of a potential policy to apply to all ethnicity lists on Wikipedia, including this one. JackO'Lantern 20:33, 11 April 2006 (UTC)Reply

To Whichever Person..... edit

Who keeps adding such individuals as: Leonard Nimoy, Akim Tamiroff and Jack Palance after they've been removed - I think you may possibly need a geography and world cultures lesson. Nimoy was of Jewish Ukrainian parentage, Tamiroff was of Armenian and Georgian parentage and Palance was Ukrainian. Persistently adding these individuals is tantamount to adding Lucy Liu to a list of Scottish Americans. ExRat 00:46, 23 April 2006 (UTC)Reply

Sources edit

I have sourced the list in accordance with Wikipedia's Original Research and Verifiability policies. Basically, anyone described by a reliable source as "Russian" or "Russian American" (i.e. as opposed to "of Russian descent", "Russian mother", etc.) is on the list. Here are the few people I couldn't find anything for. If you have a reliable source that fits that please restore the names:

Potential listees edit

The following articles are linked to Category:Russian-Americans, but are not in this article. When verified as Russian Americans, they should be added to this list. I only found one person Sholom Aleichem who appeared to be a expatriate in the U.S., not an immigrant.

Inclusion of Jews edit

Jews do not really belong in this subject because they are considered to be a different nationality in Russia. Many of these names belong in Jewish Americans —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 68.127.37.235 (talk) 23:59, 25 January 2007 (UTC).Reply

What's called nationality (национальность) in the USSR/Russia is not the same as nationality in other places, which is roughly citizenship. This list does not include only ethnic Russians. ←Humus sapiens ну? 02:21, 26 January 2007 (UTC)Reply

Perhaps we could add some sort of indicator if they are non ethnic Russians from Russia? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 68.108.115.69 (talk) 06:26, 18 October 2007 (UTC)Reply

Massive removals, September 12, 2008 edit

See [1]. Badagnani (talk) 22:16, 12 September 2008 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for the obvious. Whoever wants to re-add, you need the following:

A source stating the person was either born in Russia, or a source calling the person a Russian or Russian-American. Sources that say "parents were Russia" - do not count. Neither do sources that say "Russian father" "Russian mother". For that, the person can be added to Category:Americans of Russian descent. I will be adding a "Famous Russian Americans" to Russian Americans for everyone who is verifiable via their biography. Any additions on a list, however, will require a source. Here's me explaining it a second time, because I guess, once isn't enough:

The following is needed for the removed names: a source stating the person was either born in Russia, or a source calling the person a Russian or Russian-American. Sources that say "parents were Russia" - do not count. Neither do sources that say "Russian father" "Russian mother". For that, the person can be added to Category:Americans of Russian descent. article repair edit

This article needs repair since the recent round of pointy deletions. Much good information was deleted and needs to be restored. Hmains (talk) 04:44, 18 September 2008 (UTC)Reply

Each individual should be added back, pending finding of at least one reliable source for each (Google Books probably being the best), and a short annotation about the nature of their heritage should be added after the individual's name. Badagnani (talk) 05:08, 18 September 2008 (UTC)Reply

Belarusian Americans--83.52.60.81 (talk) 13:06, 28 March 2010 (UTC) edit

I think the Belarusian Americans should not be included in the list of Russian Americans since Russia and Belarus are two different countries.

Harrison Ford and Michael Douglas --88.27.174.176 (talk) 14:09, 29 March 2010 (UTC) edit

They should be removed from the list because they are of Belarussian origin, not russian.

In fact, they are Jewish and should be listed so. Pubgoer (talk) 19:43, 2 February 2015 (UTC)Reply

General removing of all persons who don`t belong in this subject edit

I am going to carry out the general removing of all persons who don`t belong in this subject because they are Jewish, Polish, Ukrainian and so on. Stop adding people of other ethnic background here. The issue is that in both Americas the notion of "nationality" is equal to one of "citizenship". So, a person who has American or Brazilian passport is considered American or Brazilian by nationality too whereas he or she can be of any race or ethnic background. This concept is called "civil nation" and differs from one used in the rest of the world where a nation is built on ethnic ground, not on citizenship.

You have no agreement among editors to change the content of this article. Do not change it until/if you gain such approval. Hmains (talk) 02:32, 3 February 2015 (UTC)Reply

What kind of agreement do I need to remove them? Who are these editors to decide if they know nothing about this topic? What kind of information do they need more if in most cases it is clearly indicated that the mentioned person is/was Jewish, Ukrainian, Bielorussian, Polish, German, French etc. I see I am not alone here who thinks so. I insist that you take action to edit this article properly or at least don`t hinder. Pubgoer (talk) 10:31, 5 February 2015 (UTC)Reply
