Maner of deprature

I thought it would make an intresting addition to include maner of deprature, it gives better understanding of why manager left his posistion. I dont think this consult as WP:Original as these information are already sourced on each manager's main article. DoctorHver (talk) 04:21, 30 September 2016 (UTC)

I don't see what benefit this would bring. When it comes to a manager being appointed/leaving the club, the only facts that really matter here are the dates. The reason for their departure isn't always clear (see A.H. Albut and James West), and nowadays it's mostly couched in legal speak (i.e. a manager is hardly ever sacked before, it's always by "mutual consent"). I think if people want to know why a manager left, we should include it in the prose (already done) and link to the managers' articles where readers can find out more (already done). – PeeJay 11:20, 30 September 2016 (UTC)

Can i make a man.utd records statistics?

Hello guys, i hope you will accepting my record statistics that i make, my reason is to make an easy information, so all the readers not difficult to finding the Manchester United's most managed games by a manager, most trophies from the manager's nationality and major honours by United's manager. I don't think it's particularly difficult to find that information since the main table is sortable. I also don't think that information really needs aggregating from an encyclopaedic point of view. What difference does it make how many trophies have been won by managers of a particular nationality? – PeeJay 18:44, 10 March 2018 (UTC)

Jimmy Porter, Manager 1938–1944

Rather surprisingly, Jimmy Porter, who was Manchester United's fifth longest serving manager – see https://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/football/teams/manchester-united/8212050/Manchester-United-five-longest-serving-managers.html – has been left off the list. Jimmy Porter isn't mentioned in any official Manchester United records. I'm in the process of researching this further, but it seems rather weird that if he really was manager, he would be left out of the club's history altogether. – PeeJay 08:32, 5 February 2019 (UTC)

Proposal to replace StretfordEnd.co.uk as the primary source for win-rate statistics for current and future managers

It's come to my attention that StretfordEnd.co.uk is privately owned and currently up for sale, though they advertise themselves as the "official source" they do not seem to be officially endorsed in any capacity I can see. I also combed through every result since Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has joined and StretfordEnd actually seems to be inaccurate (1 draw more and 1 win less). I propose transfermarkt.co.uk as a suitable replacement, though there are issues with it being partly user-edited I wouldn't see it as any less so than StretfordEnd. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Th998 (talk • contribs) 12:42, 11 December 2019 (UTC)

Looks to me like the discrepancy is the EFL Cup game against Rochdale, which was 1–1 at full time after which Man Utd progressed to the next round via a penalty shootout. Standard practice in this country at least is to take the result at full-time, after extra time but before penalties or any other tie-breaker, so this game would be counted as a draw, not a win. See e.g. Soccerbase Man Utd results, where it's listed as a draw, and Solskjaer's W/D/L record, currently 26/12/14.

Transfermarkt records it as a 6–5 win, i.e. counting the penalties as part of the game score rather than as a tie-breaking method. It was actually 5–3 in the shootout, so Transfermarkt are inaccurate even by the method they use, which should produce 6–4.

I see no advantage of a privately owned website that records match results differently from standard practice, is demonstrably inaccurate, and has long been accepted here as unreliable, in preference to a privately owned website that does follow standard practice and as far as I'm aware, is generally recognised as accurate where MUFC match-related data is concerned. And I'm guessing that if StretfordEnd weren't "officially endorsed", using the copyright MUFC logo next to words describing themselves as the official statistics website would equate to phoning the club's lawyers and asking to be sued. cheers, Struway2 (talk) 13:55, 11 December 2019 (UTC)

Even though I am inclined to agree with the above points, there is a need for a new data source as StretfordEnd.co.uk will cease to update after the end of the current season both due to them wishing to sell the site contents and due to the discontinuation of the Flash plugin, as explained on the website.
