Talk:List of HVDC projects

Latest comment: 9 months ago by Pafideas in topic Changji - Guquan 1.1 MV / 12 GW HVDC missing?

The B2B systems are introducing too much noise and the interest in them is for interties, not long distance transmission. Perhaps they should be in a separate table. -J JMesserly (talk) 00:05, 19 December 2008 (UTC)Reply

I don't think it's a major issue - we've only had about 50 edits in the last year. The article is titled "List of HVDC projects", not particularly emphasizing long-distance transmission. I would like to see the B2B projects left in till the article is much larger, say over 32 k. --Wtshymanski (talk) 00:37, 19 December 2008 (UTC)Reply

The drawing of the NorNed cable (#9)is not correct: Eemshaven is in the northern part of the Netherlands (Groningen), not in Germany. Frans Cuppen (talk) 15:36, 27 November 2009 (UTC)Reply

Although the list contains coordinates of most HVDC plants in the world, please try o find out the coordinates of the remaining stations. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 91.46.199.44 (talk) 00:09, 22 December 2009 (UTC)Reply

The route of the East-West interconnector between Ireland and the UK in the map and the table is incorrect. The UK end is definitely coming ashore in North Wales near teh English border and Liverpool and not on Anglesey. It is connecting at the Deeside substation near Liverpool. Some information is on the National Grid website at http://www.nationalgrid.com/uk/Electricity/. Interconnection Map

edit

It would be nice to have arrows there, to know in which direction the electricity is going. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 141.30.234.150 (talk) 12:01, 22 June 2010 (UTC)Reply

Direction changes according to need.
In U.S. anyways, power on these lines generally flows in one direction. Arrows can be placed on these. E.G. power flows into California, out of North Dakota, or generally from less populated location to more populated location --74.46.103.222 (talk) 03:16, 3 December 2014 (UTC)Reply

A little error I spotted: The NorNed cable (no.9 on the map) comes to ground in The Netherlands. On the map it comes to ground in northern Germany. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 87.208.81.151 (talk) 08:03, 2 May 2011 (UTC)Reply

The Scottish end of connection 2 is also a long way from South Ayrshire. 81.133.5.13 (talk) 14:30, 25 September 2012 (UTC)Reply

Atlantic Wind Connection

edit

Google and others have launched the 6GW multipoint offshore cable project Atlantic Wind Connection (AWC) http://www.greencarcongress.com/2010/10/awc-20101012.html - I don't know if project status warrants inclusion on this list. TGCP (talk) 20:55, 12 October 2010 (UTC)Reply

Atlantic Wind Connection exists. I'd leave it out of this list until they have some shovels in the dirt (water),it's only "announced", no environmental permits yet, etc. - there's no rush. --Wtshymanski (talk) 21:10, 12 October 2010 (UTC)Reply

Sorting broken

edit

This table is no longer "sortable" in a numeric sense for data like power rating, length, etc.; but instead those fields sort like text, (i.e. .1, 1, 10 ,100... all come before .2, 2, 20, 200...). Can this be fixed so that numbers sort correctly? (by 199.227.90.106 on Oct. 19, 2011)

Sorting of numbers is generally broken, I think, or at least requires some wizardry I've never seen documented. I've never been able to figure it out. Nor have I figured out how to sort non-text things (like flags for country identification). --Wtshymanski (talk) 15:56, 19 October 2011 (UTC)Reply
I've done some cleanup to aid sorting, but to fix numeric sorting all non-numeric characters have to be removed from every cell in a column for numeric sorting to work according to Help:Sorting#Numerical sorting problems

Kingsnorth (England) scheme

edit

The table shows the voltage of the Kingsnorth scheme as 266kV. This is not quite accurate. The Kingsnorth to Beddington link is indeed 266kV. However, the Kingsnorth to Willesden link is -266kV. I have been trying to modify the table to reflect this, but have not succeeded. Can someone with more knowledge of Wikitables than I oblige. Reference: Kingsnorth Power Station brochure on the DC system (Kingsnorth to London HVDC power reinforcement scheme - dated 1975)

The system was also capable of operating Beddington - Willesden or vice versa, but I'm not sure how to document that either. DieSwartzPunkt (talk) 15:23, 11 May 2012 (UTC)Reply

Someone obligingly made changes to the Wikitable and asked me to add the citation. The table currently has a '±266?' entry which needs deleting as nothing actually operates from such a split voltage. I attemped to add the citation (which is exactly as shown above), but every time I attempt to edit the table, it locks up my PC necessitating a reboot. Quebec-New England Transmission

edit

The 2000 MW converter station at Nicolet, Quebec entered service in 1992. Is it still operating? The Hydro-Quebec website only lists two converter stations, which it describes as being near James Bay and Sandy Pond, Massachusetts. G. C. Hood (talk) 01:26, 6 August 2014 (UTC)Reply

Line Status - another option

edit

Currently there are four options for the HVDC lines, namely: decommissioned, operating, under construction and planned. Would it be useful to have a further category 'under discussion', corresponding to the 'options under consideration' on the Europe map. This would be appraise for the 'Ice Link' UK - Iceland link. I think it should be reserved for significant links - such as the Ice Link which would be some 1000 km long.

Another comment re 'line status': my view is that 'operating' means that commissioning is complete, since commissioning is part of construction and 'under construction' should mean that contracts have been signed for the cables and convertor stations. Is there consensus on this? Cantab72 (talk) 17:50, 28 January 2016 (UTC)Reply

Southeast Asian HVDC projects missing

edit

Hi there, I've been researching and compiling a list of HVDC connections within Southeast Asia for a table on the ASEAN Power Grid page, and I've noticed only one of them is mentioned in this article.

There are a few dozen missing, and they can be found in this research paper: https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S1364032116305573#s0060 As well as this document from the ASEAN Center for Energy: https://www.unescap.org/sites/default/d8files/event-documents/Status%20of%20South-East%20Asia%20Interconnectivity%20under%20ASEAN%20Power%20Grid_Nadhilah%20Shani%2C%20ASEAN%20Centre%20for%20Energy.pdf
