Criteria for inclusion?

Are there any clear criteria for which companies belong on this list? Arguably Chatr is not a telephone company (as it has no existence other than as a re-labelled Rogers Wireless), Vonage is not Canadian, all of the Canadian Independent Telephone Association members are telephone companies and should be listed individually. Historical major long-distance providers (such as Unitel, now Allstream) likely are "phone companies" even if they're not local 'phone companies. CLECs such as les.net and ISP Telecom likely should be listed (despite their heavy voice over IP reliance) if they own even one local exchange. I'd be tempted to keep voice-over-IP companies without ILEC/CLEC or independent telephone company status off this list as adding every voip.ms or vBuzzer-like entity opens the floodgates to an unlimited number of providers. Any danged fool with an Asterisk box and a website can claim to be a VoIP service provider.

One possible criterion: list anyone who is listed on www.cnac.ca as holding at least one "CO code" block of 10000 local numbers. That would be an easy list to generate from the lists of exchanges in each Canadian area code, which are on that site.

That would still leave the question of what to do with defunct carriers or long-distance only providers. K7L (talk) 18:08, 21 June 2013 (UTC)

Canadian Independent Telephone Association, as it presently stands, is merely a list of local exchange carriers - a subset of the list of Canadian telephone companies. Unless there is some plan to expand beyond this simple list, it should be a section in the list of all Canadian telcos (with, presumably, other individual sections devoted to ILEC, CLEC, mobile and long-distance carriers. • Oppose it is an organization, so should have a list of its members. As its members are telcos, ofcourse they would also appear here. According to the information in the article, it is similar to Stentor Alliance which is also composed of telcos -- 70.51.203.69 (talk) 06:37, 1 July 2015 (UTC)

What would make this page more useful

Is an indication of who has the land lines, in each region. For example, Bell Canada in ... well the original Canada, and ... well that's kind of what I was looking for. Nfitz (talk) 16:41, 28 July 2017 (UTC)
