Category:English painters has 199 entries; this page has only about 80! The value and purpose of this page edit
I am deeply doubtful of the value of this page, and I cannot see its purpose. Aside from the fact that it is not a complete list of British painters and it can never hope to be one, it contains no useful information whatsoever. To find an artist on this page, you need to already know either their name or their birthdate, and having found them here, you've learned nothing new about them.
Why is this list ordered chronologically on birth date, with no additional information added?
The same purpose would be served much better by simply adding a sub-division of category pages underneath Category:British painters, organised by century. Then you would have an alphabetical ordering within each century, which would be more convenient for browsing, and could be maintained far more easily.
Alternatively this page should be developed into a tabular format offering more information about each artist, especially the genre(s) they worked in, so that at least it would add some value to Wikipedia. Rubywine (talk) 20:30, 31 July 2011 (UTC)
Overlapping articles edit
Why is there a list of British painters and a list of British artists? I have dozens of names to add but I'm not going to work on two lists.
Are there any plans to merge these two lists?
