New Fort Minor

Should a mention to the new Fort Minor be included in the article? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Potsmoker88 (talkcontribs) 08:26, 24 June 2015 (UTC)

Last time I checked, Fort Minor had its own article. --  StarScream1007  ►Talk  20:45, 27 June 2015 (UTC)

WHY CANT I EDIT THIS PAGE?

I wish to add the http link (http://simple.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rob_Bourdon) to the instances of "Rob Bourdon". — Preceding unsigned comment added by Zalenix (talkcontribs) 01:42, 1 September 2015 (UTC)

In regards to why you can't edit the page, the article has been semi-protected so that only autoconfirmed users can edit it – because you appear to be a new user, you're unable to edit the page. However, you don't need to add this link to Bourdon's name anyway, because that's what wikilinks are for. But Bourdon doesn't have his own Wikipedia article, so I wouldn't bother trying. Hope that helps. 4TheWynne(talk)(contribs) 01:53, 1 September 2015 (UTC)

Reference Link Formatted Incorrectly

In the "Early Years" section, second paragraph, just passed middle, there is a reference link that is supposed to be in the [18] link, which it is, but it is also in the text, with </ref> after it. I am assuming that it is just the person double did the link and put </ref> at both of the ends, but didn't put a second <~ref> in there. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 108.171.135.166 (talk) 07:48, 21 October 2015 (UTC)

In History: The Hunting Party's cycle has ended, so it needs to be changed to "(2013-2015)" And a "Seventh studio album (2015-present)" section needs to be added. It can mention Mike's talks of a new album coming in 2016 and the new heading displayed on their website: "We're just getting started in the studio on a new album" 27.253.46.77 (talk) 04:47, 26 November 2015 (UTC)

That doesn't necessarily need to happen. Just because "The Hunting Party's cycle has ended", doesn't mean the section has to end or be altered. It really depends on when more information comes to hand. There is no fixed time on when a new section has to begin. 4TheWynne(talk)(contribs) 09:24, 26 November 2015 (UTC)

Electronic rock

They released two albums in this style! I think it would be important to list this in the infobox to better cover their other history, and not just what they're doing now/best known for. dannymusiceditor ~talk to me!~ 19:26, 30 November 2015 (UTC)

Not only that, but their Reanimation remix album also mixed rock and electronic. When I reverted the addition of electronic rock to the infobox before, it wasn't because I disagreed with it being there, but rather because consensus for the genre listing had been established. There's sources that mention those albums as electronic rock, but if sources are needed saying the band are electronic rock then Billboard described them as both electronic rock and alternative metal. They are also described by WatchMojo as electronic rock, alternative rock and industrial rock (although, industrial rock is a sub-genre of electronic rock). Also, I'm not sure if this source is really reliable, but Bloody Disgusting called them an electronic rock band during they era of those two albums, as did TwinCites.com. Overall, I would support the addition of it. Kokoro20 (talk) 09:51, 1 December 2015 (UTC)
One week and I'm still seeing only support. I think that we're good here. dannymusiceditor ~talk to me!~ 01:22, 8 December 2015 (UTC)

Unsourced genres

There are no sources in the article calling Linkin Park an "electronic rock" band. "All material in Wikipedia mainspace, including everything in articles, lists and captions, must be verifiable." (WP:VERIFY)

They don't seem to be any of those other genres either. "Both Hybrid Theory and Meteora combine the alternative metal, nu metal, and rap rock ..." Uh, okay? Those are two albums. Not the band. The Beatles recorded several psychedelic albums, but they aren't noted as such on their infobox because they're not widely regarded as a band that generally played psychedelic music. How are Linkin Parks widely regarded? I don't really care, but I suggest you add some real sources that explicitly say "Linkin Park is an [x] band". Otherwise those genres should not be listed.--Ilovetopaint (talk) 01:22, 11 June 2016 (UTC)

Hey, I reverted your edit for now, per WP: BRD. Numerous sources describe Linkin Park as these other genres. I'll gather these sources up and add them to the article later. Also, just to note, I had already posted up a couple sources for "electronic rock" in the post above. Kokoro20 (talk) 01:41, 11 June 2016 (UTC)
Okay, as you asked, all the genres are now cited in the article under the "Musical style and influences" section. Honestly, I had wanted to cite the genres in the article for some time now, but I just never got around to it, but I thought I would do so now, since you challenged them. Kokoro20 (talk) 02:20, 11 June 2016 (UTC)

A Minor Edit

I saw in the section Minutes to Midnight (2006-08), that there is a grammatical mistake in the second paragraph. It's written "with the rest of the albums singles", but the right way is: "with the rest of the album's singles", with an apostrophe in "album". Thank you. --نصر الله غانم (talk) 09:43, 12 December 2015 (UTC)

In addition, many contemporary legendary pioneers have stated positive views about the band

^ The above line underneath "Legacy and Influence" makes absolutely no sense. The words contemporary, legendary, and pioneer all conflict with each other. You cannot be contemporary and a legend nor can you be contemporary and a pioneer. It is possible to be a legendary pioneer, but not all pioneers are legendary. I suggest the sentence simply be changed to "contemporary artists" or something similar.

Thank you.

These words

" In addition, many contemporary artists have stated positive views about the band, such as Deftones..." and Chino Moreno actually stated that Linkin Park can't play, lol — Preceding unsigned comment added by 37.44.97.81 (talk) 08:15, 23 December 2015 (UTC)

The sentence, 'In addition, many contemporary artists have stated positive views about the band...' should be removed. It's an example of Weasel Words - It's vague and open, and does not say what is being complemented (song, album, design, performance). I'd suggest removing it all together or adding specific accolades. And yes, Chino Moreno has down-talked the band on multiple occasions.--  StarScream1007  ►Talk  18:24, 23 December 2015 (UTC)

Legacy and Influence

This section seems to merely be a list of sales accolades, awards and nominations by the band, which has nothing to do with their purported 'legacy' or 'influence.' Fans of these bands often get sales confused with legacy. All of these accolades are already covered in the introductory paragraph, some of them are exact duplicates, and the remainder should be saved for the "List of awards and nominations received by Linkin Park" article. I only noticed this because it seems to happen a lot on wikipedia articles for extremely popular bands; they seem to equate the number of records sold, or their popularity on Spotify (?!) with their 'legacy' as a band. There is no consistency whatsoever. The Backstreet Boys sold more records than they did, are they more 'influential?'

The only bit about actual influence is just a list of other contemporary musicans who like them, including, bizarrely enough, "the drummer" of One Direction, in quotes. Who knew that One Direction even had a drummer?

To summarize, I don't see the point of this section. It is just a series of unconnected benchmarks for how popular they were. — Preceding unsigned comment added by ThirstCurfew (talkcontribs) 18:47, 26 March 2016 (UTC)

Origin of the band name

I dont know of any 'Lincoln Park' in Santa Monica - although there's one in Lincoln Heights. Is the footnote good enough to support this assertion in the article? Gilgamesh4 (talk) 17:36, 12 June 2016 (UTC)

This article confirms there was once a Linclon Park in Santa Monica. The city might have renamed the park or closed it altogether. The following sources confirm the band was inspired a 'Lincoln Park' for a name:

A Yelp! Review (which may not be accurate) suggests the park is now called Christine Emerson Reed Park. --  StarScream1007  ►Talk  22:17, 12 June 2016 (UTC)

Musical Style and Influences

I found an old article from the New York Times news paper where the author, Kelefa Sanneh, wrote about how Linkin Park supposedly survived the decline of rap-rock's popularity by darkening the mood of their music upon the making of the album, "Minutes to Midnight". In the article, Sanneh says that "In retrospect, it's clear that the stratospheric success of Linkin Park marked the end of an era." Sanneh was referring to how Linkin Park may have been the last great rap-rock group of the 1990s before the genre itself nearly died-out. The article then describes how the group members realized the aforementioned decline in rap-rock, and had to adapt as a result. Later in the article, Sanneh says, "In deference to the current climate, they have de-emphasized rap-rock and tentatively embraced emo." This reflects the mood change Linkin Park did in order to retain the fans' interest in their music. The next album, "Minutes to Midnight", contained songs with overall darker tones, although some may argue that there were a few exceptions. Considering the success "Minutes to Midnight" has achieved, however, the group's decision to switch musical moods seems to have worked. I feel that this information might be a good addition to the Musical Style and Influence section because it delves more into the development of Linkin Park's music.Xenanraptor720 (talk) 08:15, 28 September 2016 (UTC)[1]

Living Things first week sales

Under the Living Things and Recharged section of the article, I think we should state that Living Things sold 223,000 copies in its first week rather than over 220,000 copies in order to more accurately reflect its first week sales. The original source that was used to state that it sold over 220,000 copies also confirms that it sold 223,000 copies. Thanks. --Sasha.sov (talk) 17:52, 3 October 2016 (UTC)

Rob Bourdon Wikipedia Page?

Part of me kind of feel that there needs to an official Wikipedia page for Linkin Park drummer Rob Bourdon. The only problem is that I need to cite the collected information so that I can be certain the page won't get deleted. The only notable source I could find was this [1], but even then it doesn't give you much information outside of his formation of Linkin Park with fellow bandmates Mike Shinoda and Brad Delson. I would like to ask anyone reading this whether they think there should be a Wikipedia page dedicated to Rob or not? Rotten Tardises (talk) 13:31, 5 April 2017 (UTC)

Of course should be. He is a long time member of one of the most popular bands in the world. If it's not making him notable, there is something wrong in English Wikipedia. Of course, you have to add reliable sources so those who don't understand music, can see that there is something written about him in the internet. Other good source, for example moderndrummer.com. Stryn (talk) 16:03, 5 April 2017 (UTC)
What has he done outside of Linkin Park?
And then, once you figure that out, would it require a standalone article and would it meet the requirements for a standalone article? Most likely, you would create an "Other projects" heading within this article instead of creating one on its own.Kellymoat (talk) 16:14, 5 April 2017 (UTC)
I think, other projects isn't the only notable thing that can be written in a standalone article. Look at the Brad Delson article, a large portion is dedicated to the Playing style and equipment part. That's something that could justify a Rob Bourdon article if the same amount of information can be found. --Gbuvn (talk) 17:12, 5 April 2017 (UTC)
I am not interested in using one article to justify another. Because any parent knows the proper response to that --- "If your friends jumped off a bridge, would you?" I have seen plenty of articles and sections of articles that got deleted after being there for years. I know a grammy winner that doesn't qualify for an article because he remains largely out of the public eye, and really only has credits and awards, which leads to very little press. Yet, I see local bands with articles.
However, as to a playing style - if this guy has a unique style and he is admired by or has inspired millions (like like Jimi Hendrix with the fuzz and feedback, or Eddie Van Halen's finger tapping), then certainly there would be tons of press regarding him. And that takes us right back to my original statement - who is he outside of LP, and is there justification for a standalone article. Kellymoat (talk) 17:41, 5 April 2017 (UTC)
There is a small biography for Rob Bourdon available in List of Linkin Park band members. There was a high demand to create articles for Rob Bourdon and Dave Farrell. However we did not have enough reliable sources to establish notability or add substantial content. As previous editors stated, there is not much published information about Bourdon's early life, personal life, or even a critical discussion of his playing style. Bourdon rarely spoke to the media directly, but he's released a few Q and A's.[1][2], but these have been self-published through Linkin Park Underground. The content in Chester Bennington and Mike Shinoda's career goes beyond their musical careers and discuses their upbringing and work outside of music (film, art, influences, and families), which have all been gathered through interviews and articles. And yes, there are other musicians on Wikipedia who have played for far-less noteworthy band, but the 'other stuff exists' rationale is not really appropriate for adding or removing topics. I would be all for adding an article for Bourdon if we could find more reliable, attributable, and third-party information about him that is outside of Linkin Park. --  StarScream1007  ►Talk  23:13, 6 April 2017 (UTC)
