Subdivision origin edit

Another reason for groupism came from the profession followed by the differnt groups. As people changed professions, they also had to change names to reflect those professions. However they needed to differentiate themselves from people who were already using those professional names. So as people took up farming they had to call themselves Vellala. However since other groups were using Vellala as title, different groups with additional names were created. Thus were created the various groups of Vellala.

More insight on vachanas and vachanakaaras edit

The book Arivu-Aachaara by Sri B.Mahadevappa . (A commentary on Vachanas of Shivasharanas )published by Arivu-Achara Prakatanalaya, Yadagiri -585201 is an excellent source for all the sharanas.

Also a lot is commented in edit page which are very much true like the revolution of 12th century which was primarily to reject vedas not because it was wrong but because of the caste system which was very cruel and inefficient in that period was not allowing anyone except upper class to learn vedas. Hence vachanas were written to simplify learnings and people wandered to spread the vachana literatures sarvajna being prominent one in later century. Hence vachanas can be seen as a parallel to vedas.

Hence a revolt against society started in karnataka to oppose money class and the superstitious class with dignity. The social setup to gather for this was called Anubhava Mantapa headed by Allama Prabhu who was mystic. The above book mentioned in kannada provides so much insight and is a very important one. Although a lot can be said similar between Veerashavism and Lingayatism but this particular period of 12th century has to be marked as a renaissance in India as it involved murder of superstitions, first inter caste marriage , empowerment of lowest of castes and a golden era in the field of literature which was just limited to adoration of kings and puranic tales. Lack of publicity has always been the problem with south Indian revolutions and empire. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 59.144.48.246 (talkcontribs)

Repeated Vandalism edit

@Ms Sarah Welch: Please take note of recent vandalism. He keeps adding some very things strange things like 'Jew-Brahmin nexus' or something. Please have this page locked from further vandalism.

Vandalised article edit

This article seems to be vandilised over time to prove Veerashaiva predates Lingayatsim, the article tone was vandilised over time by inserting Veerashiava multiple times by replacing Lingayat term , most of reference mentions Lingayat but the article mentions Veerashiava.

Most of the authors and historiens already rejected the claim Veerashiava predates Lingayatsim ,

Lingayat is a Sect, whereas Veerashiava is a subsect of Lingayatism.

All Veerashiavas are Lingayats but not all lingayats are Veerashiavas.

(All Shaivites are Hindus but not all hindus are Shaivites because Shaivism is Sect of Hinduism , Hinduism is not sect of Shaivism)

Veerashiava is based on mythological Sanskrit language Siddantha Shikamani which is written during 13-16th century while Lingayatsim is based on Vachana Sahitya of kannada language written during 12th century.

Shaivism and Veerashaiva both are Shiva centric but their is significant differences between both terms please be familiar with this term, before editing. Don't confuse.Bhadra 782 (talk) 11:50, 3 September 2023 (UTC)Reply

Requested move 4 September 2023 edit

The following is a closed discussion of a requested move. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section on the talk page. Editors desiring to contest the closing decision should consider a move review after discussing it on the closer's talk page. No further edits should be made to this discussion.

The result of the move request was: not moved. Skyerise seems to have found the source of confusion: "Most sources and web pages are about the people rather than the belief system. This page, on the other hand, is about the latter" (emphasis in original). (closed by non-admin page mover) HouseBlastertalk 17:15, 12 September 2023 (UTC)Reply

  • Oppose - you have provided no evidence. Skyerise (talk) 13:11, 4 September 2023 (UTC)Reply
    • "Lingayat" have 977,000 Google results [1]
    • "Lingayatsim" have only 39,900 results [2]
    • Majority of English News publications Use "Lingayat"
    • All most 95% of References in this article use "Lingayat"
    • Britannica use "Lingayat" [3], in their entire article they didn't even mention "Lingayatsim"
Earlier the "Lingayat" was the article title but it is moved to other titles and then to "Lingayatsim"
If I am not sure but I guess, the term "Lingayatsim" is coined by the Wikipedian who moved this page earlier. Bhadra 782 (talk) 15:37, 4 September 2023 (UTC)Reply
Perhaps the results would be different if you spelled "Lingayatism" correctly, instead of spelling it "Lingayatsim". Skyerise (talk) 16:24, 4 September 2023 (UTC)Reply
I am searched "Lingayatism" please click link it is correct, in talk page it is mistyped , Bhadra 782 (talk) 16:36, 4 September 2023 (UTC)Reply
Also, I checked the move log. The article has never been at the name you propose. It was originally right where it is now. It got moved to Lingayat Caste and then to Hindu Lingayat Caste, and then right back here. Your claims do not reflect what actually happened. All that happened in 2011, over 10 years ago, and so doesn't seem relevant to the discussion. Skyerise (talk) 16:33, 4 September 2023 (UTC)Reply
Yes I am wrong,Lingayat was not named to this article but a redirect was created to it . Please visit this redirect Lingayat Bhadra 782 (talk) 16:39, 4 September 2023 (UTC)Reply
I did, where I found no pages moves. That's why I looked into the history. Telling inaccurate stories about the page move history simply makes your whole argument even less convincing than it was in the first place, if that's even possible. Skyerise (talk) 16:41, 4 September 2023 (UTC)Reply
  • Comment - it appears the "Lingayat" is the name of a caste or ethnic subgroup, while "Lingayatism" is the name of the belief system associated with this group. Most sources and web pages are about the people rather than the belief system. This page, on the other hand, is about the latter. Therefore this page is titled correctly. Lingayatism is also referred to as "Lingayat religion", but "Lingayat" seems to always refer to the people and not the religion. Skyerise (talk) 16:48, 4 September 2023 (UTC)Reply
