US perspective edit
I don't understand the prominence given to US reviews such as by Rolling Stone. FC were always a very British band and it's hardly surprising that American reviewers accustomed to The Byrds had trouble understanding this album initially. The whole UK electric folk movement of the 70s initiated by this album was largely ignored in America. British critics didn't like the Grateful Dead or Blue Oyster Cult, should their views dominate WP articles on albums by these acts? --Ef80 (talk) 19:26, 12 June 2016 (UTC)
- Tend to agree. Some American reviews at least indicate the band's reach, even at that time? But by all means feel free to balance by adding UK ones. Martinevans123 (talk) 19:50, 12 June 2016 (UTC)
- Yes. FC was and is hugely influential in the UK, but not in the US; don't know about Canada. Although American, I myself especially loved this album when it first appeared (on Boston's WBCN), and still love it, because I grew up listening to British folk records that my British father and grandfather brought to our household. - Thanks for sharing that Acwilson. I guess that was the FM one, not the one in North Carolina. Producer Joe Boyd was American of course. That external link, from 2014, is worth a look. Thompson convinced him with one guitar solo when they opened for Pink Floyd at the UFO Club (... and that gig is not even currently mentioned in the main FC article!)
