I am a first time contributing writer and a dance fan and historian. I am trying to add new dancers & choreographers to this site. Could someone help me with the first one? I am overwhelmed. I am not that familiar in computer lingo. Thanks, Joe Malelli

References section

edit

i've fixed the "References" section header for you (you'd left a space in front of it, which caused the goofy formatting), but the websites listed there are not formatted properly. it's best to use in-line citations, so that readers know which source supports which statements in the text. the simplest form for that is:

<ref>[url plus brief title]</ref>

for example:

<ref>[http://www.playbill.com/news/article/80950.html Playbill news article]</ref>

which you place just after the statement in the text. (a better form is to use the "cite web" template, which is found here: WP:Citation_templates, but the instructions for that are not the clearest/simplest to follow so you may prefer the simple form for the time being.) either way, when you use in-line citations, the "References" section should consist only of:

==References== (or if you prefer: ==Notes==)
{{reflist}}

the in-line citations then get listed there automatically. i'd be willing to help you with that if you need it, but you're the one who knows which sources support which statements, so you need to do the basic job of inserting the in-line citations in the appropriate places. hope that helps Sssoul (talk) 10:08, 7 November 2008 (UTC)Reply

follow-up

edit

i've just added the "reads like a resume" tag and changed the "needs references" tag to a request for in-line citations. at the same time i've also eliminated a few of the "overly resume-like" statements; please remember that not everything someone might list in their resume is notable for encyclopedia purposes (eg an exercise dvd that the subject apparently produced himself and has for sale on his website). i'm now going to take this article off of my "watch list" so if you want my help getting the references in order you'll need to let me know on my talk page. happy editing Sssoul (talk) 14:45, 8 November 2008 (UTC)Reply
