Official designations?

The infobox main Belize article says that English is the official language, and Kriol and Spanish are "recognised regional languages". Is "recognized regional language" a Wikipedia term, or the term used by the Belizean government? If they (and any other languages) are officially recognized by the government, some mention should be made of that.

Also, what is the practical outcome of official recognition? I suppose all government business is conducted in English, but could you, for example, request a ballot in Kriol if you so desired? Are public schools ever taught in Kriol or Spanish? What sort of accommodations are made when the majority's mother tongue is not the government's working language? Is everyone fantastic enough at English AND their own language that it doesn't even matter? If I knew any of this, I'd help out. Thanks! 75.21.78.232 (talk) 01:11, 2 August 2008 (UTC)

There are divisions as to how to write properly in Kriol- basically almost written stuff is in standard English, and the education system is in standard english, but people will speak kriol. A ballot, if you think about it, is very simple and doesn't require much translation anyway. But the newspapers (as far as i remember) are in English as well. Basically, written things are all in English and Kriol is a spoken only language. Whatever literacy someone has will generally be in English. This all makes no sense until you remember that English and Kriol are related languages and to some degree mutually intelligible- closer than spanish and Portuguese, which, when you see them written, are very similar. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 69.158.24.89 (talk) 22:46, 22 July 2011 (UTC)

Spanish should be co-oficial language in Belize

Spanish is the most important mother tongue of Belizeans but the Government (forced by the British) doesn´t respect the rights of the Spanish speaking people, the majority of the population.
