This article could go into the contemporary (as in recent) history of gay romance in Western cultures, with book examples and links to political/publishing events. But... what's a priority? This is a massive genre when considering children's literature, other media such as movies and music, and fan fiction. That's before considering influences Eastern gay romance such as shounen ai and yaoi. Also, how should we handle how gay no longer refers specifically to male homosexuality in either casual or professional contexts? Ofwaterfall (talk) 01:45, 12 February 2019 (UTC)
I don't think this entry should be incorporated, but I do think that this should be renamed MM Romance Novels and cover only that, as that is the huge category of novels written and read by straight women and that is not covered in Gay literature. Lesbian romance novels are covered under gay literature, so that part would be cut here. ReadWrite222 (talk) 18:11, 3 February 2021 (UTC)
I agree that this entry should stand on its own and not be incorporated. I do agree that the title might need to be updated from "Gay Romance". In Publisher's Weekly, Bussel (2020) comments on the trends in publishing referring to the genre as "LGBTQ Romance" or "Queer Romance".
