Compulsory subjects

edit

Would I be right in thinking that ICT isn't a compulsory subject, but an optional one?

Nope. It's an understandable confusion though. ICT itself as a National Curriculum subject is statutory. That is, all schools must provide children in KS4 with education in line with the National Curriculum in ICT. However, it is not a compulsory subject at GCSE level, if that makes any sense. Schools don't necessarily have to provide ICT lessons if they can cover the National Curriculum through other subjects. The Key Stage 4 curriculum actually lends itself to this approach. Hope that helps to explain a little. Tafkam 20:04, 31 October 2006 (UTC)Reply
ah so it's similar to R.E. it has to be taught, but not as a structured lesson (i.e. on leading to a GCSE). I wasn't sure as I only do it for about 5 weeks a year during tutorials. Thanks for clearing that up! Englishnerd 20:21, 31 October 2006 (UTC)Reply
Yup, something like that. KS4 is probably the most confusing Key Stage, what with statutory requirements, statutory entitlements, compulsory choices, optional choices, etc.
In my school, you don't have to have I.C.T. lessons in K.S.4. SpiffingAnimal (talk) 18:35, 17 September 2008 (UTC)Reply
The compulsory ICT is probably delivered through other subjects (as explained above). Dbfirs 21:09, 25 September 2014 (UTC)Reply

When it ends

edit

Is the definition of when KS4 ends being changed to reflect the compulsory leaving age rising to 18? Stub Mandrel (talk) 19:30, 25 September 2014 (UTC)Reply

No, Key Stage 4 still ends at 16. It is followed by Key Stage 5 or some equivalent. Does anyone know if the 2002 Education Act has been amended? Dbfirs 21:07, 25 September 2014 (UTC)Reply

Removal of content

edit

Details of Wales and Northern Ireland are being removed from the Key Stage articles. Have these countries abolished the terminology? Dbfirs 20:47, 16 June 2016 (UTC)Reply

Could our persistent IP-hopping anon remover of content please respond here? Dbfirs 08:30, 19 June 2016 (UTC)Reply
