Talk:Kenkyusha's New Japanese-English Dictionary

Corrections edit

I am glad to see that such an extensive article has been prepared about this dictionary. I corrected some figures (48,000 to 480,000 and the like) and made various other changes, including toning down some of the fulsome praise for the dictionary that appeared in the previous version of the article. (Disclosure: I am one of the dictionary's editors.) Tomgally 22:38, 13 October 2005 (UTC)Reply

Proposed changes edit

The history of the dictionary is largely missing. We know from the list at the very end that the first edition was 1918, but how important was it when it first appeared? What has driven each successive new edition (which have appeared at fairly long intervals)? What are the chief changes in each edition? Is the “Summary” section necessary? Shouldn’t the introductory paragraph be the summary? The first section should be a history, and there should be an entry specifically on the 5th edition giving the statistics. It should not be described as “recent”: such terms should not be used for articles expected to last, since it won’t be “recent” much longer. Jb05-Hds2 03:14, 7 December 2005 (UTC)Reply
