Canada?

For the charts of the songs... Canadian Hot 100 isn't on there, and it looks too complicated for me to fix lol. Also the sales of her album should be on there.. :) - random user

As i have said about a dozen times in edit summaries, there is no Reliable Source available for the Canada Hot 100 - if it is added it is removed because it constitutes Original Research. Blame the CRIA for not publishing their charts efficiently. As for sales, the certifications give you an idea, however, we cannot add anything unless a reliable source publishes a certain number (eg. Billboard, major newspaper, RIAA, etc). My justification

To all of those who consistently remove certain content, i shall explain myself here, once and once only. Otherwise further action will be taken as it will be considered vandalism. This project is responsible for Discographies on Wikipedia. If you go to that page and click on any of the lists in the Featured Content column it will explain a few things (note: Some older ones there are no longer up to current standards, we progress).

• For one, Studio albums should have two == on either side, not three, it is a major title and Albums is not needed, continually reverting this is wasting both my time and yours.
• Removing New Zealand from the albums charts and leaving a bot to clean it up, giving no reason. WHY? It's vandalism, straight up.
• Removing a whole Studio album because YOU have never heard of it. Vandalism. Allmusic and other sources all state it existed, and it was in fact Katy Perry who released it through a record label. Just because it never topped 30 countries' charts, doesn't mean it isn't notable for inclusion. If you have any issues understanding these explanations, or need further consultation, post here or your edits will be reverted and your opinions ignored. Listen, yes, I accidentally removed a whole studio album; and I have heard of it before, but let me explain. I was using some information for a table on my wikia and I accidentally deleted the album and saved it (when I was supposed to preview it). It was my fault, but I know that it's so easy for a mod to fix, so I didn't think much of it. An edit summary wasn't going to be long enough for me to explain this, and this way you at least get to reply properly (without the usual, "No my way is better than your way" reverts). Okay, so first off, if you check most (any?) recently Featured discographies, you will see the way things are done properly. Things such as: changing the second level header to "Albums" and "Studio albums" to third level, it's not the generally accepted way. You also removed four charts from the Studio albums section - NO explanation why. No discussion, see the section above for the idea of "discussion". You added sales - unsourced and left the table broken. Unofficial album is not sourced ANYWHERE (this is not just to you, to anyone reading this, not at anypoint where this album is sourced, is it mentioned to be "Unofficial"). Just because it was not a massive album, does not mean it was "Unofficial". Would you call Green Day's Kerplunk "unofficial"? Just because they weren't mainstream at the time? No. The code was the way it was because it is simpler, simpler not having align=center on every single line, and also saves memory space on the page. I'm happy to change the dates back around, since I guess that is the American way. Explanations, please

These should have been explained in edit summaries - they are mainly controversial edits and need to be discussed:

• How is Katy Hudson (album) not a studio album? It is even referenced, so what if it didn't hit number one on twenty charts, it still exists as her first studio album, quit the ignorance.
• Who made Australia, Canada and the US the only three notable countries in the world? MOS:DISCOG is a guideline, it should be followed in most cases, but not religiously. When there is sufficient reasoning, for example when there is so many certifications to list, it doesn't have to be copied, it is detrimental to the page and the publication of the release's success.
• It is very, very ignorant to trust what a blog tells you about music sales, and then reposting it to tell thousands of readers of Wikipedia the same unverified figure. Please, think about your edits. Reliable Sources! A record label is also generally not reliable in this case either, check out the scrutiny at Talk:List of best-selling music artists, they are renowned for overinflated figures, you would think they'd know, but most figures they report are completely nonsensical. Find better sources; newspapers, proper third-party publications.
• The "text-align:center;" line allows you to center all the table without having to "align=center" every single line... much less text = smaller page size and less bytes = faster page loading.
• Why has nobody touched the lead? That is what needs the most work...
• How is "Starstrukk" a Katy Perry music video???

Some changes are really great, don't let me take that away from you - the edits are very much appreciated. But work with me here, you don't just come here, provide absolutely no edit summaries (in some cases) and change things which have obviously been done for a reason, without as much as explaining yourself. Actually I have added German and English certifications in singles table too, but apparently somebody removed it. Those five countries are actually the biggest music markets in the world (Japan is one of them too, but she did not have any certification there to list). About Katy Hudson (album), it was in the page too but again, somebody removed it. I also removed US sales, since it's sourced with a non-reliable blog. Where does it say though, that we need to cover just the "biggest music markets in the world"? I get that usually you would put the certifications in the same table, and space-permitting this is an obvious way of selecting what certs to use. But there is nothing saying you have to put the certs in the same table, I feel it is something we can bend the guidelines on especially since her singles have been certified in a dozen countries, it isn't illustrating her worldwide success just publishing the top five countries in western culture. Can somebody help me? The problem it's that, "Last Friday Night (T.G.I.F.)", "Peacock" are on Other charted songs section. But they charted on Hot 100?

songs don't have to be officially released as "singles" to chart. people can download whatever they like from itunes and other places and if a song is popular enough it charts, in some cases very highly. Mister sparky (talk) 21:33, 15 October 2010 (UTC)

I just upgraded to an iPhone 4 so I decided to update my music to have the right details (I have hundreds of songs known only by their track numbers). I found a Track 05 that is Katy Perry's "I Kissed a Girl" as track 5 of 20. I doubt it had any release outside the US, as it was relased by a relatively small US label and a relatively unknow artist.

Also another source by Katy said it could be 1500 copies around the world "I'd say this is probably my second record because the first was such a blip - maybe only even 1500 copies are out there in the world," she says very matter-of-factly. source here I dunno if it helps. Teenage Dream album sales

Its simply unbeliveable that the album sold 5 million copies. That source is totally wrong. Firstly 5 million is just unreal in 5 months (the article was written in January), secondly mediatraffic which monitors weekly album sales around the world stated it sold 2,2 million copies until January 8, 2011 on the year-end chart . Please remove that 5 mill source. If you add weekly sales in 2011 2 (104.000), 3(73.000), 4 (63.000), 5 (70.000), 6 (51.000), 7 (52.000) to 2,2 its around 2,623,000. I've tried looking for background information, production information, etc., but there doesn't seem to be much online for the EP to warrant its own section. You know what, though? All of the tracks on the EP were also released on a re-release of One of the Boys, so I think any information could be added to that page. This page is a mess

This page is getting really messy. Why were chart postions added to the Katy Hudson album when it didn't chart anywhere in the world? Also why was its relase date changed to 1993 when it was released in 2001? This page is being vandalised, I think its needs protection. Singles table

hi there, i was reading through the info on MOS:DISCOG and it states that a limit of 10 countries is suggested and i noticed that this one has 16. can i suggest removing US Pop, Austria, Denmark, Norway, Switzerland and Belgium because it only covers Flanders and not Wallonia. any ideas? I'd agree with Belgium straight up, for the reason you have stated. That page is just a guideline page, it's not an explicitly stated be-all and end-all list of laws to follow. It's open for interpretation, consensus is really more important. So if three people for example, agreed that the page benefited more by listing a few extra countries, perhaps they could stay. I usually just let them sit, you will see if you go ahead and remove a couple, some nationalist will come along and vandalise the page in protest, patriotic buggers. :) If I end up taking this to a Featured List nomination, then it will probably be culled. Frankly, the more information on reliable chart positions, the better. If the table isn't capable of taking the information, then perhaps it's a better idea to find a different way of displaying the details. Being on the "old world" side of the Atlantic, I would really expect to see the United Kingdom, Ireland, Norway, Sweden, Denmark, Finland, Germany, Switzerland, Austria, Netherlands, Belgium (both Flanders and Wallonie), France, Italy, Greece, Spain and Portugal listed (and depending on reliability of the charts, perhaps Poland, the Czech Republic, Slovakia and Hungary). I realise there are problems with chart reliability and verification in the Balkan countries, including Turkey. Outside Europe, the United States, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Japan (and, depending on reliability, Israel, South Africa, South Korea, Mexico, Brazil, Argentina and Chile). To those of us who don't segment music like the United States, those are far more relevant than whether it performed in the American Adult Contemporary AOR Country Rock Black Dance Crossover chart! To hear claims that a track (or album) topped the charts in 37 countries, only to find that Wikipedia only lists eight of them, is, at the very least, frustrating. Proposed merge from List of Songs...

Under what conditions is it appropriate to list the notable songs (say those which have reached the top 10) in the individual entries for the albums in a discography?Naraht (talk) 22:00, 5 January 2012 (UTC)

• Oppose - a discography is not a listing of songs, it is a listing of released/charted albums and singles. If you want this included in this article, take it up with WP:DISCOG because the established consensus is that a discography is: "A table-based list of official releases, in chronological order from earliest to latest.") and establish a consensus to change the 500+ other discography articles. Further, take it up at WP:FL because this is the stylization/items included established for FL discographies. I will withdraw the merge proposal for the moment, at least, in order to let your AFD of the other article run it's course. I reserve the right to restart the merge proposal if the AFD does not delete it. At a minimum, these articles appear highly duplicative of each other, and I still do not see the point of having them both around. Teenage Dream: The Complete Confection

It's not a new album, it's just a re-release (or re-issue) of the 2010 album so I think we should list "Part of Me" as it is from Teenage Dream, like what we do with Take A Bow/Disturbia on Rihanna discography or Who's That Chick on David Guetta discography. I don't see "Confection" as a brand new release like The Fame Monster or Cannibal for example. What the rest of you think? Decodet (talk) 21:55, 10 February 2012 (UTC)
