Non-Karo can't attend a Karo Wedding? edit

Is it true that members of other Batak clans are not allowed to join in at a Karo adat wedding? The article says that only Karo are allowed to attend the Karo wedding. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 168.105.253.236 (talk) 19:43, 23 March 2010 (UTC)Reply

Modern practice is that a Karo adat-based ceremony will be held at lunch time for Karo people, while a modern celebration (the wedding reception essentially) will take place in the evening, with alcohol consumption likely at the latter. It is not so much 'not allowed', as custom, so it would be conceivable that a close non-Karo friend or neighbour might help out/attend the adat ceremony. Attendees to the adat ceeremomy would be according to family ties and reciprocal social obligations, while the evening reception would be for friends. Obviously practice varies from area to area, but this would be typical in an area with significant non-Karo population, and also as something more 'fun' for the young couple.
