Country

edit

I've re-added the country to the article for several reasons.

  1. It is relatively standard practice on Wikipedia for any discussion of locations to include the country for context.
  2. It is good writing to inform the reader of the country that a location is in, something that is true for most forms of writing; journalism, report writing, any kind of factual writing. Only news reports intended for a small local area would omit the country in an article, international newspapers, news sources and even domestic ones talking about other countries would include the country.
  3. Wikipedia is an international encyclopaedia, not a US encyclopaedia. The majority of readers are outside of the United States and you cannot assume geographical knowledge on them. It's like talking about Newtownards, a place not everyone outside its home location would know about without clicking on the link and going on a tangent. It gives context to the article, as not everyone knows all geography. Ben W Bell talk 13:57, 14 January 2008 (UTC)Reply

This is a U.S. based station. It's categorized as a U.S. station. There are numerous links to other articles that include geographic information. Including the country just seems superfluous to me. Do you intend to update several thousand articles on radio stations? I dont recall seeing country information on any I've come across. --Rtphokie (talk) 01:19, 16 January 2008 (UTC)Reply
Yes it's categorised as a US station, but a reader doesn't want to have to wait until they scroll to the bottom of the page to figure out where somewhere is talking about. I add country information where relevant to any articles I come across that are missing it. Remember Wikipedia is not a US encyclopaedia, it is a global encyclopaedia to be accessible by people from all over the world and not centred around one country. Adding the country removes nothing and adds everything. A random sampling of radio stations from other countries shows me they have the country, it's only the US ones that don't because they've mainly been added by US editors who (and no rascist or other implication is meant here) seem more likely to not put the country on articles based in the US for one reason or another. That does tend to get fixed sooner or later, but it's a fact of Wikipedia. Also a random sampling of the radio stations in Texas category shows that roughly half already do include the country (though on some it should be tidied a bit) while the otehr rough half doesn't.
