"KSJO" actually to be two different network-affiliated stations? edit

News-Press & Gazette Company currently owns/operates duopolies in three markets where the senior partner is a English-language major network affiliate and the junior partner is a Spanish-language Telemundo affiliate. Given that NPG acquired two station licenses even though it never acknowledged that the two licenses they purchased would be operated as separate stations or if one would be a repeater of the Fox/CW-affiliated station, would it be safe to say that NPG could operate KNPN-LD and what as of this writing, now K16KF-D as separate stations (one a Fox main channel/CW subchannel-only affiliate and the other a Telemundo affiliate, which would be relayed as a subchannel on the Fox/CW station), instead of one being a repeater of the other? The construction permits for both station licenses have K16KF-D and KNPN-LD have the same coverage area for both stations. TVtonightOKC (talk) 19:53, 6 April 2012 (UTC)Reply

The result of the move request was: pages moved -- JHunterJ (talk) 21:18, 14 June 2012 (UTC)Reply

– The station's legal callsign is now KNPN-LD as of May 24, 2012; due to long wait periods on the requested move of the article from its previous title K26LV-D, the main article has been temporarily renamed under the title "KNPN" (which it was formerly titled from prior to the FCC reassigning the KNPN-LD callsign to the channel 26 license and the May 24, 2012 deletion of the K26LV-D callsign from FCC records due to a error in a license to cover application filed May 8 that led to the latter callsign accidentally reassigned to the license). The existence of a redirect under the name KNPN-LD has prevented a standard page move of both the main article and talk page to that title due to the KNPN-LD title being cited as a double redirect for both. Citing naming conventions for broadcasting, the article and talk page should be retitled to use the official station callsign with the article, its page history and associated talk page moved to what is presently the aforementioned redirect title "KNPN-LD". In addition, the article has two additional redirects besides the one mentioned in the move request that require bot fixes for removal, namely "Talk:KNPN" (a similarly-titled redirect for the talk page that does not have the "-LD" suffix, which the talk page was last titled before the main article was renamed to its current title, and is unable to use a uniform title with the main article as of the recent move) and "KSJO (TV)" (the article's original title referencing the originally proposed callsign that News-Press & Gazette Company was initially going to use before choosing to assign the KNPN-LD callsign for the station). Move. This article definitely needs to move to KNPN-LD. There is no legal sign of this station possessing the K26LV-D callsign any longer. KansasCity (talk) 03:32, 4 June 2012 (UTC)Reply
Further evidence of the callsign change from K26LV-D to KNPN-LD comes from an update to the FCC authorization records for the KNPN-LD license, which explicitly uses the phrase "This authorization reissued to reflect CORRECT CALL SIGN". This directly implies that an error was made to the previous version of the license to cover application on May 8, and has since been corrected. TVtonightOKC (talk) 13:58, 6 June 2012 (UTC)Reply

Update needed — KNPN-LD to only transmit two channels now edit

KNPN-LD is upgrading its three additional subchannels to high-definition, an March 5 article in the (co-owned) St. Joseph News-Press says. (KNPN already airs Fox in HD, and always has.) But quadruple-HD wouldn't work too well on one station… which appears to be where the other NPG-owned St. Joseph stations come in. The CW (which comes from The CW Plus) has already jumped from channel 26.3 to KBJO-LD, channel 21.1. That means Telemundo moves up from 26.4 and takes over 26.3 — until it moves to channel 30.1. NPG owns KNPG-LD on RF channel 30, so that's where Telemundo will ultimately go (if it hasn't already). This in the end will leave KNPN itself with just the main Fox channel on 26.1 and News-Press 3 NOW on 26.2. This is a pretty complex situation (especially since the soon-to-close KNPN-LD3 and the new KBJO-LD have separate articles), so updates are needed… --WCQuidditch 04:13, 15 April 2013 (UTC)Reply
