Katchen and Sviatoslav Richter

edit

I've just read a story that they once found themselves in Prague at the same time. They both gave concerts, and after attending each other's concert they declared each other the greatest living pianist. They became firm friends until Katchen's death. This story came from an article about Richter called "The Iconoclast", in the March 1998 edition of "24 Hours" (now "Limelight"), published by ABC Radio, Australia). The writer was David Bollard, who studied with Katchen and Louis Kentner. Anyone know the details of the Prague meeting - dates, etc? -- JackofOz (talk) 01:27, 9 September 2008 (UTC)Reply

Brahms set

edit

The text says "citation needed" next to the claim that Katchen's Decca set of Brahms' solo piano music is among the best available. Well the Penguin Guide to CDs (2005/6 edition) certainly agrees, calling it "magisterial" and suggesting that "those wanting a comprehensive survey need look no further". — Preceding unsigned comment added by 94.174.7.49 (talk) 22:23, 18 February 2012 (UTC)Reply
