Based on graduate research undertaken in the 1970's, I'm expanding this stub into an article. Information re subject's works and sources used will be added in the near future.

This cannot be the same Don Jose de Canizares that made the first map of San Francisco Bay and sailed on the first ship into the Bay, the "San Carlos" with Ayala? Could I be referring to his grandson?Schmiebel (talk) 07:54, 4 January 2010 (UTC)Reply

Possibly his son, but more likely a grandson. I'm reading that a Don José de Cañizares was a member of the Portolá expedition, from the time it left Loreto, Baja California, in 1769. Guessing that he was born 1740-50? Will look for more info. WCCasey (talk) 06:45, 21 September 2013 (UTC)Reply
