Covers

The article doesn't seem to mention his role in creating French lyrics for famous English and American Rock & Roll songs (Black is Black, Old Time Rock and Roll). I don't know enough about him but it seems significant. I also remember hearing that he co-wrote some significant anglophone Rock songs. Does anybody have real info on this? Need for detailed discography

This huge artist with a big number of charting albums and singles needs a detailed discography in a separate page, not just a listing in the main page as we have now. werldwayd (talk) 19:04, 16 May 2013 (UTC)

Huge artist?? Ahaha. I think he is only loved by people older than 60. I'm really ashamed when they say: France? Johnny Hallyday! — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2A01:E35:8A8D:FE80:A465:6E43:CE0A:C4C4 (talk) 01:54, 22 August 2015 (UTC)

Hello fellow Wikipedians,

I have just added archive links to one external link on Johnny Hallyday. Please take a moment to review my edit. If necessary, add {{cbignore}} after the link to keep me from modifying it. Associated acts

This list in the infobox seems entirely random, apart from Sylvie Vartan, who married him. Anyone knows why it is there? Mezigue (talk) 21:32, 6 December 2017 (UTC)

I would speculate it's because this is "the encyclopedia that anyone can edit", and mucking around with infoboxes is easy enough that anyone can walk off the street and do it, regardless of whether the edit is factually accurate or not. Ritchie333 (talk) (cont) 13:42, 7 December 2017 (UTC)

List of best-selling music artists

There seems to be no sign of Johnny Hallyday in the relevant section of the linked List of best-selling music artists which appears in the lead. (To be honest, I only heard of Hallyday through French language teaching materials in the '70s that tried to convince us that France was cool - "Disco is short for discothèque" etc.) JezGrove (talk) 23:49, 6 December 2017 (UTC)

Correction - I've just spotted him in the 80 million sales category with a 2017 reference JezGrove (talk) 23:59, 6 December 2017 (UTC)

Nationality

Knowing the French and Belgian legislation about marriage, children and nationality, I would like to see a prime reference of French nationality at birth of Jean-Philippe Smet a.k.a. Johnny Halliday ( i.e. a birth certificate or civil registration), or a prime reference of him acquiring the French nationality (knowing that he reapplied for Belgian nationality in 2006

Although JH was born in 1943 during German occupation in France, French and Belgian family law would apply (or made to apply after 1944).

  • - due to their marriage father Léon and mother Hugette would both have had the Belgian nationality , they could request to French naturalization later.
  • - a child born from their marriage would have Belgian nationality, not French, even if the father did not recognize his son at the civil registry.
  • - JH may have acquired French nationality later between 1944 and 1965, which would also mean he (implicitly) renounced and lost his Belgian nationality, when he applied for a passport and traveled with his cousins
  • - His birth in 1943 under German occupation may be the quirk that caused him to actually have French nationality at birth, but only a birth certificate would be valid proof of that state.

Hello all- The fr.wp article states that he declared* French nationality at age 18, on June 15, 1961. The source cited is a Hit Magazine article from December 1979 called "Johnny Story", which I could not find published online. See first sentence here: fr:Johnny_Hallyday#Vie_privée; the source is footnoted there. *Note: Or viewed himself as having French nationality? (Not sure of the precise translation of se voit attribuer as written on fr.wp) But the following sentence discusses his military service, so I inferred this was referring to the French military. Only one paragraph left to reference

Could we please focus on adding references at the end of these sentences? When that's done, I think it will be good to go on the main page.Zigzig20s (talk) 14:14, 7 December 2017 (UTC)

@Zigzig20s: I'm on it. By the way, your addition of lots of {{fact}} tags was good faith, I tend to just wait until nobody else is likely to fix up the sources before placing tags, and then it's a balance between highlighting the problems and making the article hard to read because of the proliferation of tags. deletion of referenced content

User:Ritchie333 I do object to any heavy handed deletion like yours which i undid a few moments ago. A) atrocious writing is not a valid reason for vandalism, and certainly not while other users are working on a article , whatever the quality . B) vandalism is the removal of correctly referenced factual information , so i categorise your deletion action was vandalism C) You did not abide by the assume "good intentions" by the other editors which is evident from the way you performed the action, and your motivation you've listed in th history summary - editing wikipedia requires consultation and consensus, not brute force tactics, you did not consult with the other editor and you did not seek consensus there are no traces of entries in talk pages to prove you did attempt to consult or seek consensus.

I will disengage from this article, but if you persist and vandalise the efforts of other good intentioned editors again I will request formal arbitration. --DerekvG (talk) 14:16, 7 December 2017 (UTC)

Who on earth said anything about vandalism? I removed the text because it was largely unsourced (Wikipedia is not a reliable source) and off-balance, and was written in a whimsical tone completely inappropriate for an encyclopedia. In particular, a number of us are trying to improve the article's quality so Hallyday can be name-checked under the "recent deaths" section on the main page, which can only be done if the work is good enough. You can go to ANI if you want, but you'll probably get the answer you deserve. Ritchie333 (talk) (cont) 14:28, 7 December 2017 (UTC)

Who the heck is Drexl Jonez?

The article has, for some considerable time, suggested that Hallyday collaborated with guitarist Drexl Jonez around 2008-9. This looks like straight-up vandalism to me, as if you do a search for "Drexl Jonez", you get a bunch of self-published sources and Wikipedia mirrors - absolutely no independent sources whatsoever. If he was that an important collaborator, why don't any of the numerous obituaries or AllMusic reviews mention him? Ritchie333 (talk) (cont) 14:23, 7 December 2017 (UTC)
