Talk:John Galbraith Graham

I know I'm breaking the rules and I know this is not the place for it but…

Seems harmless enough in such an obscure corner of Wikipedia. I've always found his crosswords to be ridiculously difficult. I congratulate myself when I manage to get one answer- never mind finishing the damn thing. I'd say he is the most cryptic compiler I have encountered. IrishPete (talk) 16:34, 8 June 2010 (UTC)Reply

He's the master

edit

Actually, his crosswords usually aren't that difficult to finish quickly (often under ten minutes in my case, but I'm sure others are faster). But even so, he's incomparably the wittiest and most inventive of all setters. In over twenty years, I don't remember ever seeing a dull or predictable clue in an Araucaria puzzle, nor has there ever been one where I haven't laughed out loud at his cleverness. We'll never see his like again, and I wish his Wikipedia entry wasn't "obscure", but reflected his deserved pre-eminence. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 82.34.253.98 (talk) 23:34, 11 November 2011 (UTC)Reply

Guardian crossword 11 January 2013

edit

In this crossword, Araucaria revealed that he has terminal cancer of the oesophagus. He has, however, said that he intends to continue to compile puzzles for as long as he's able.

Death reported

edit

It has been reported that Araucaria died this morning. I am looking for a reliable source, in order to add this to the article. RolandR (talk) 09:56, 26 November 2013 (UTC)Reply

Not sure if this counts as reliable? http://www.fifteensquared.net/2013/11/26/john-graham-rip/ (Ciaran McNulty) — Preceding unsigned comment added by 141.0.34.138 (talk) 10:59, 26 November 2013 (UTC)Reply

It wasn't there when I checked earlier. RolandR (talk) 13:46, 26 November 2013 (UTC)Reply

The Times

edit

Was he definitely not one of the Times' compilers? I recall obituaries saying he was, but maybe they were just assuming it? Fuficius Fango (talk) 09:39, 9 February 2020 (UTC)Reply
