From John Birtwhistle
editThanks for your interest, but various corrections:
Born 1946 (error was in your source, not proof-read by me).
Romanian translator is Stefan August Doinas.
Not Before Time was never published: was title first advertised for Conversion...
Vision of Wat Tyler, not The Vision...
A Swallow is a song for soprano, not texts for songs for soprano.
More positive corrections when I have time! Birtwhistle (talk) 20:29, 5 July 2010 (UTC)
- Dear John, I'm Brian from Hooks Bookshop, Maidstone, still treasuring the copies of "Conversion..." and "Haymaking" that you signed for me in 1975. I've been in Hungary since 1977, which is why our paths haven't crossed again, well, partly why. I discovered from the Gregory prizewinner list that you didn't have a Wiki page and thought you deserved one. I think "Conversion..." is one of the best poetry book titles of all time and you did well to change to it. Bmcln1 (talk) 15:09, 6 July 2010 (UTC)
- Anyway, to get back to business. Here are some of the things you might consider adding to your page, which is very modest in length so far, but they're all optional, of course:
- Place of birth, parents and their occupations and dates, your schooling and universitying.
- Links to any poems or other stuff of yours that can be read on the Net. Very important.
- Your specialities as a lecturer in English (Romantic poets, I thought, but I couldn't really find enough evidence). Your present literary interests. Any influences on your work. Most people seem to say Blake, but it's not obligatory!
- Marital status and offspring if any. No pets, please!
- Where you've lived (Southampton? Maidstone? London?) and where you live now. These are useful as it may be possible to link to your page from a "famous son" list that some city pages have. Bmcln1 (talk) 15:27, 6 July 2010 (UTC)
Sourcing
edit- Please note that all information added must be verified by a citation (with full bibliographic details) to a published reliable source. This is a biography of a living person. We cannot accept information from someone who claims to be the subject without independent verification. I'm pretty sure the above message is from the subject, but I hope you'll both understand that we have no way of verifying this simply from the user name. This policy is there for the subjects' protection. Please see WP:BLP for further guidance and information. Voceditenore (talk) 10:39, 7 July 2010 (UTC)
- Thanks for the information, Voceditenore, we'll work on the referencing as we proceed. Bmcln1 (talk) 09:55, 8 July 2010 (UTC)
