Looks like I had updated it five minutes before you wrote this. (Make sure you're looking at the current version of the page, not one cached in your browser.)

Religion

He is described as "Protestant". That term:

• is a general one, covering a number of non-Catholic denominations
• can also refer specifically to Lutheranism in German-speaking countries.

But this is English WP, so if he was Lutheran we should say that. If he belonged to another denomination, we should specify it. JackofOz 20:43, 27 January 2006 (UTC)

He was a member of the "Evangelical Church in the Rhineland" ("Evangelische Kirche im Rheinland"), a member church of the Evangelical Church in Germany (EKD). (see that page on the more generic meaning of "evangelisch" in German) It is a "United" (Lutheran/Reformed) church, not specifically a Lutheran one. Each member church of the EKD covers a certain geographic area, so some of the details are basically a consequence of his birthplace. Kellner 11:46, 28 January 2006 (UTC)

It is misleading to claim that the term "Bruder Johannes" was used to ridicule Johannes Rau. The term was also frequently used by his supporters. So I suggest calling it just a nickname without speculating on the motives. --213.54.182.96 11:25, 3 February 2006 (UTC)
