The Grid

edit

The notable alumni grid, which has been removed, looks OK to me. At least it is not tarted up with colors and flags and stuff like that there. Still, all that info might just as well be in a list format. Truthfully can't see much use for the grid. Sincerely, GeorgeLouis (talk) 22:04, 23 April 2011 (UTC)Reply

Jazz and the section that is being added and removed

edit

Jushereforthextracredit has been repeatedly adding a long section on the role of the school in nurturing jazz musicians and as part of the Central Avenue scene. It's not unreferenced—the last version has three good references at the end, although they are by the same author and only two actually appear to mention the school. But much of it is not about the school, and it needs inline references. Also, the style and the way it appears in the editing window, with indentations and one line break, suggested to me that it might be copied from somewhere. I have failed to find a source online that it has been lifted from, so I suspect Jushereforthextracredit may have drafted it offline and be copying it in. Or it occurred to me in searching that it might be taken from the Kirk Silsbee article, "Jazz High", which we are citing but that appears to be well and truly gone from the internet. I found at least two usable book sources citing that article, one explicitly saying the author worked from a copy provided by Silsbee. Jushereforthextracredit, you're right, we need to cover this properly. But it needs to be summarized, and only the information about the school and Samuel Brown, not the rest of Central Avenue. And as Amsgearing and Greyjoy have both written in edit summaries, it needs inline references: each point needs a footnote after it, rather than just a list of refs at the end of the section. Anybody up for writing it up? Jushereforthextracredit, do you have the text of that article? If so, please write up info from it in your own words, with references :-D Yngvadottir (talk) 03:24, 16 May 2018 (UTC)Reply

Yeah, just for the record, I am not against some of the information being included in this article. I did a little bit of research and there's clearly something there - but what's being added is way beyond that something. We need a clear, concise paragraph or two on the topic, with each sentence referenced, and I'm too confused by the volume of info that has been added to try and tackle it. I also feel like the username Jushereforthextracredit means someone is adding this stuff as a high school project and not going about it the right way. Amsgearing (talk) 05:13, 16 May 2018 (UTC)Reply
