Jaoli principality → Jaoli State — More common for the princely states, see Category:Indian Princely States --TopoChecker (talk) 03:48, 20 January 2011 (UTC)
- Oppose the current describes the current article well, namely a historical monarchy: Titles should match the article contents, and should be neither too narrow nor too broad. "Jaoli State" is ambiguous. Is there a political entity called "Jaoli State"? Or is Jaoli part of a federal nation? Or is it a form of enlightment in Jainism? walk victor falk talk 23:10, 21 January 2011 (UTC)
- You may learn more about Indian/Native/Princely states by reading the article princely state, esp. Princely state#Princely status and titles. The designation "princely" is not as accurate as you may think, http://uqconnect.net/~zzhsoszy/ips/j/jaoli.html calls Jaoli a thikana. State is a generic for all kinds of these entities. TopoChecker (talk) 09:17, 22 January 2011 (UTC)
- Oppose The proposal gives the impression that Jaoli was a state of the Republic of India. TopoChecker's point that state is a generic for all kinds of these entities may well be true, but then State would not be capitalised, and would usually be in parentheses as Jaoli (state). Would support a move to Principality of Jaoli. Skinsmoke (talk) 12:27, 22 January 2011 (UTC)
- The five proposals follow Hyderabad State, which was both, a princely state and a state of the Union. princely is wrong for several of these articles, since they also contain info about the time before the British arrived and called them princely, see Wikipedia talk:WikiProject India#Princely states of India. Why would you want this article to be called Principality of Jaoli while for Bastar you support Princely State of Bastar at Talk:Bastar_state#Requested_move? This is inconsistent. TopoChecker (talk) 15:44, 22 January 2011 (UTC)
- You must have mixed me with someone else. I haven't participated in the Bastar discussion. walk victor falk talk 14:23, 24 January 2011 (UTC)
- The difference is the Hyderabad is a state in modern India, while Joali is not. walk victor falk talk 21:42, 22 January 2011 (UTC)
- Oppose Would seem the rename would create confusion with modern-day states of India. Orderinchaos 07:27, 25 January 2011 (UTC)
