NASA pictures edit

Brazilian media have reported that NASA published these satellite pictures of the clouds over Rio de Janeiro. I think they would be a nice addition to the article, but I couldn't find them on the NASA website. If anybody finds a good source, please post it here. Worst natural disaster edit

I find it unlikely that this is the "worst natural disaster" in Brazil's History. In the 80's and 90's and even in the 2000's there were extensive floods elsewhere in the country. Anyway one of the references only mentions this as the worst climate-related disaster. Granted that the text only passes along what is in the references, but should we not second-guess them? I would welcome further research, even if to confirm that this is indeed the "worst natural disaster". Speaking of which, how do we define "worst" to make it WP-objective? Greatest number of deaths? Greatest number of victims? Largest region affected? SrAtoz (talk) 12:35, 14 January 2011 (UTC)Reply

At any rate, it is being widely reported here in Brazil as the worst natural disaster in Brazil's history. Leirus (talk) 15:30, 14 January 2011 (UTC)Reply

Worst by number of deaths. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 201.78.254.47 (talk) 10:28, 20 January 2011 (UTC)Reply

Title edit

This title is ridiculous why not something like 2011 Rio de Janeiro floods or 2011 Rio de Janeiro mudslides to cut down this ridiculously long title. --Kuzwa (talk) 04:52, 15 January 2011 (UTC)Reply

I guess I should answer that since I moved the page here. If you look at Category:Floods in Brazil, you'll see the naming pattern that I followed. Makeemlighter (talk) 05:34, 15 January 2011 (UTC)Reply
Ah, I see. So it's an established pattern. Thanks for your response. I will be looking to see if I can find something to propose that can cut down this articles' title size. --Kuzwa (talk) 07:05, 15 January 2011 (UTC)Reply

why is this even news? edit

more important than safe housing, is that Brazil build single event stadiums for the Olympics and World Cup. CorvetteZ51 (talk) 12:47, 19 January 2011 (UTC)Reply

Filled with errors edit

"It has been commented that the majority of deaths were in poverty-stricken areas, and that the impact in these areas could have been much lower if it had not been for the systematically poor conditions of Brazil's favelas."

I was in Frades Teresopolis on 1/6/2011 - 1/18/2011 and was very much in the center of this disaster. The towns destroyed weren't favelas but very much middle to upper middle class for this region of Brazil. I have been in many of them for years before and after the disaster. Oh, and Nova Friburgo isn't anywhere near the Serra dos Órgãos park. It is near the Parque Estadual do Tres Picos where I was. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tr%C3%AAs_Picos_State_Park Jbgfour (talk) 14:59, 16 September 2019 (UTC)Reply
