Lucknow or Delhi edit

The Victoria Cross for Private James Thompson, 1st Battalion, 60th Rifles was published in the London Gazette on 20 January 1860. Most secondary references state that the action was at Lucknow, India. The published citation names neither Lucknow nor Delhi but the 1/60th was part of the Siege of Delhi. In fact, Thompson was one of five men of the 1/60th elected under Section 13 of the Royal Warrant to receive the Victoria Cross for the Siege of Delhi. Two months later he was wounded in the assault on Delhi on 14 September 1857, the opening day of the battle that lasted until 20 September when the city was cleared of insurgents. I have amended Lucknow to Delhi. The citation now quoted is as it appears in the London Gazette. Anthony Staunton (talk) 14:01, 1 July 2010 (UTC)Reply
