editThanks to Harrybrowne1986 for pointing out a few things that could be improved here in terms of Wikipedia style, etc. However, some of them--the ones dealing with actual content--are a bit uninformed.
This article provides insufficient context for those unfamiliar with the subject. (May 2014) -- I really don't think so. I have a PhD in history and am a leading scholar on Reconstruction. The context is fine as a starting point. I'm sure that anyone who cares about it and arrives at this page will figure out if there is anything specific they care to add, but general comments like this are not useful to anyone. This article is written like a personal reflection or opinion essay rather than an encyclopedic description of the subject. (May 2014) -- This was taken entirely from the sources I cited, including the Encyclopedia of North Carolina. How is that a "personal reflection"? This article may be written from a fan's point of view, rather than a neutral point of view. (May 2014) -- Where would you even get that from?
