Proposed major revisions

I'd like to propose a series of revisions to this page, to address some significant problems. 1. One championship (1886) has been omitted. 2. The description of the 1885 event is very probably inaccurate in several ways. 3. The main Irish championship shouldn't be called the "Open" championship: the Irish Opens were very different events. 4. The introductory few paragraphs are inaccurate in several ways. 5. The Women's championships list is not accurate: Beth Cassidy did not win in 1956. 6. More generally, it would be better to move the Irish Women's Championship to a separate page. 7. And it would certainly be better to move the Irish Veteran's Championship to a separate page: this is quite a minor event in comparison, and if this is included, then why not include the Irish U19 Champions, Irish Correspondence Champions, Irish Universities Champions, and so on? At some point this becomes clutter. I plan to roll in these changes slowly, starting with the corrections to the description of the Irish Championship itself. • Factual errors should always be corrected as long as there is a reliable source to support the correction. False claims that are not cited can be removed little ceremony. I'm not sure that it would be better to move the women's championship to a separate page since it is just a short list and this article is not very long. But it would be fine, and separate articles allow more precise categorization since there are categories specific to women's chess. Ditto for separate articles for Irish Veteran's championship since a twenty item list isn't much of a separate article unless you intend to expand it. You are free to add correspondence and university championships if you care to, and if the article becomes too long they can be spun out into separate articles. But if you feel that these small sections should be made separate articles now that's fine too, since short articles and short list articles are certainly allowed. It looks like you have a good source that can be used to improve the accuracy and completeness of the article. Quale (talk) 07:40, 2 October 2019 (UTC)
