POV edit

I decided to wipe out all the recent additions, as they were bad written (I imagine by some Italian editor who knows little of Wikipedia) and totally POV in style. I promise to take some time and bring the article to a WP-status comparable to that of, say, Ascoli Piceno, as soon as possible.--Attilios 22:05, 27 September 2006 (UTC)Reply

English exonym edit

I moved the page from the Italian language spelling Jesi to the English "Iesi" as per Wikipedia:Naming conventions (use English) and Wikipedia:Common name. In English is spelled with "i" not with "j" like jeans, and there are a lot of sources[1] using Iesi as an English exonym. --Nicola Romani (talk) 07:06, 11 September 2011 (UTC)Reply

But @Nicola Romani: this is written Jesi in modern English texts as well. It is now only found writtern "Iesi" in history books. In ictu oculi (talk) 14:20, 5 November 2016 (UTC)Reply
@Nicola Romani: it should really be Jesi. Thank you. Shtetl80 (talk) 12:41, 9 February 2023 (UTC)Reply
Yes, @Nicola Romani: I strongly feel that modern names should be used unless there is a particularly strong reason not to. So while calling Livorno by its English name of Leghorn may be historically and etymologically more correct, I really don't think it is helpful in an encyclopaedia. I trust that is in agreement with the views of In ictu oculi (talk)
Well, I am sorry but Iesi it is still widely used even nowadays [2]. Moreover usually the “J” in English can lead people to spell Jesi in Geezi. Last but not least, please avoid comparison per WP:NCTest and WP:WHATABOUT. --Nicola Romani (talk) 17:54, 9 February 2023 (UTC)Reply

Requested move edit

Why is this listed as Iesi rather than Jesi. Both the Italian Wikipedia and the city’s own website [3] list it as Jesi. Please move it back to the correct name. --Daemonickangaroo2018 (talk) 05:04, 14 April 2022 (UTC)Reply

correct title
  1. the title was changed https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Iesi&diff=449715348&oldid=438970027 without discussion
  2. the contemporary English sources call this place Jesi and not Iesi, for example Britannica
  3. all the wikies and other wikiprojects call it Jesi [4]
  4. the motivation's moving was " moved Jesi to Iesi over redirect: as per Wikipedia:Naming conventions (use English) and Wikipedia:Article_titles#Common_names is spelled with "I" not with "J", but in these pages there are no mention about the mandatory use of I instead of J for Italian places.
  5. "J" it's a normal letter for italian places, see Jesolo and Alphabetical_list_of_municipalities_of_Italy#J

  • Support. Can't see any good reason to call it Iesi. It's clearly called Jesi and it's not one of the handful of Italian cities that have a commonly anglicised name (not that Iesi is any more anglicised than Jesi). -- Necrothesp (talk) 12:10, 9 April 2024 (UTC)Reply
