Round 1, Group A edit

Based upon the rankings, it appears China should be in the qualifier. However, they are not listed and appear to be replaced by a qualifier from this Group A. This leads to three questions that I think should be cleared up on this page (and that I do not know the answer to - 1. Why is China not in this tournament? 2. Why was the 31st team not selected to take their place and instead a 4-team group was selected? 3. How were these teams picked, because they are not ranked 31st-34th as I would have expected? Anyone who can help, it would be greatly appreciated.RonSigPi (talk) 14:24, 9 September 2008 (UTC)Reply

China declined to participate, and I will add some notes as to the teams in Group A (I think the IIHF just went through the rankings and many teams declined to participate). I just sort of made the page quickly so we had something to show for the qualification part of the tournament, but I'll get on this shortly. – Nurmsook! talk... 16:35, 12 September 2008 (UTC)Reply
The whole wording needs to be redone, currently it says that 10-30 ranked teams played but all of group A were outside the top 30 at time of qualification. If indeed the teams declined is there any information on this else where which we can add to make this confusing situation clearer, sure confused the hell out of me. There should be a reference to where this notion of "10-30" ranked teams comes from, I believe it to be fiction. Additionally, there should be an explanation for the tie breaking rationale for spain advancing, it is not simply goal differential. --jefay-- —Preceding unsigned comment added by 174.90.245.169 (talk) 14:24, 9 May 2010 (UTC)Reply
