Ice-cream maker with hyphen

Regarding the requirement that electric machines with built-in freezer units should not be used for 12 hours after any movement, I checked my owner's manual for my machine (which is a Gaggia Gelatiera as shown in the picture in the article). It reads "Do not use this machine for 12 hours after purchase or after any move, which might have stored the machine the wrong way up" I suppose this might mean that if you move it but keep it the right way up and level as you move it, the 12-hour rule wouldn't apply. But as it's such a heavy and cumbersome machine, such a move might be easier said than done. Appliance matt 09:22, 3 March 2007 (

Manual Machines Are "Inexpensive"?

This article says that manual machines are "inexpensive." Not by my standards. Neither are they readily available. I have been searching for one so that my grandson can experience what I experienced as a child. I have not been able to find any at a price less than approximately $150 (US$). So far as I can tell, there are only a couple of manufacturers of manual machines in the US. You deserve to pay for wanting him to go through that. If you want to churn it by hand and want it cheap, you could opt for the spoon and freezer method? Personally, I think he'll probably just end up sick of ice cream after putting all the effort in and ending up with milky ice.
