Book vs. Film edit

I'm removing the Wikipedia:WikiProject Films template because this article is about the novel. The two works of art are completely unrelated. Though arguably, Roth was influenced by the original film in titling his book. There currently is no article for the film, but if there were one it should be at I Married a Communist (film). --  D.M. Distortion of Eve Frame edit

In the book, Eve Frame is not "evil". She also destroys the main character, Rinn, after being influenced by Rinn's enemy, Brydon Grant, and her story is greatly distorted by Grant. Her reasons for doing this are far more complex than merely being a "wicked witch" character; hence it puts a different take on the argument that Roth was using her as a disguised version of Claire Bloom (i.e. he was describing his ex-wife as a totally unsympathetic character). So I'm changing that sentence. 137.44.1.174 (talk) 10:14, 27 April 2010 (UTC)Reply

Eve Frame is not "evil," but the article text as it currently stands is overly positive toward her. Frame is a somewhat complex character, but I would not say she is depicted "sympathetically." She is depicted as an extremely weak and hysterical person. Also, her destruction of Ira's career is in no way "unintentional," even if she allows herself to be used by Bryden and Katrina Grant. I think it is fair to argue that Frame is more than just a malicious caricature of Claire Bloom, but it would be more appropriate to do so by quoting from a published review that makes the same point, rather than including this questionable character sketch. I think this section should be deleted. Valkotukka (talk) 20:26, 9 June 2021 (UTC)Reply
