I thought the Hungarian Military was going to buy F-16's to replace their Mig-29's.

No, they opted for Gipen-Cs.

As one critic said: "why choose a '79 Ford, if You could choose a 2004 Saab..."

Graphic of the Army Structure edit

I'm currently working on a project to create graphics of the structure of the most important Armies. i.e. French Army; German Army; Italian Army I also want to make a graphic of the structure of the Hungarian Ground Forces, but the information at this point is not sufficient, as there is no information how the units are structured (i.e. What Regiments/Batallions belong to which Divisions/Brigades, What Divissions/Brigades there are, what type the units are; and so on) Does anyone have this information- and also the Regiments/Battalions names and/or numbers and where they are based? Thanks noclador

Moving the history of the Hungarian Military edit

I suggest to split this article: the sections from "Ancient and medieval military" to "After the Cold War" should be removed from this article and then merged into the article: Military history of Hungary. noclador 11:48, 11 May 2007 (UTC)Reply

Ceausescu regime-militarist??? edit

"The Soviet troops stationed in Hungary also served as potential defenders of Hungary, in case it would come under attack. A possible threat was Romanian dictator Nicolae Ceauşescu, who lead a militarist regime, spending large amounts of funds on armament."

This statement is completely out of historical sense. Altough Ceausescu operated independently from Moscow, his regime WAS NEVER militaristic and has NEVER considered an agression against the Hungarian state. Andrei nacu 12:32, 20 May 2007 (UTC)Reply

I read the paragraph and removed it as it is utter nonsense. Romania attacking Hungary in the time of the Warsaw pact! a) the Romanian Army would have refused that order, because they surely knew they would end on the gallows in Moscow if they did something like that and b) Stalin/Khrushchev/Brezhnev would have emliminated Ceauşescu if he even dared to utter such heretic craziness towards the Communist Bloc "Unity of People". noclador 10:14, 20 May 2007 (UTC)Reply

Images of WW2 Hungarian commanders edit

Would someone want to track down the individual on this forum http://forum.axishistory.com/viewtopic.php?t=21494 and ask if he would mind having his images used in Wikipedia?--Mrg3105 (talk) 09:49, 23 December 2007 (UTC)Reply

Renaming article edit

I suggest renaming the article Hungarian Defence Forces. It's a more logical and more common form. --Factuallee (talk) 17:44, 10 June 2013 (UTC)Reply

Isn't the new 2nd Special Forces Regiment a unit actually combining the 88th Light Mixed Battalion and 34th Bercsényi László Special Forces Battalion and if so, why are all three listed on the page? Regards. B.Velikov (talk) 17:17, 15 March 2016 (UTC)Reply
