SDR (Südfunk) had an orchestra, a "vocal ensemble" (radio-choir) and a big band
- Stuttgart Radio Symphony Orchestra, Südfunk-Sinfonieorchester, RSO Stuttgart
- with principal conductors: Sir Neville Marriner (1983–1989), (...), Sir Roger Norrington (1998–2011)
- Erwin Lehn and his "Südfunk Tanzorchester", dance music and "Big Band"
- Südfunk-Chor, vocal ensemble

SWF had 2 orchestras
- Sinfonieorchester des Südwestfunks (Baden-Baden), see Southwest German Radio Symphony Orchestra, now Baden-Baden and Freiburg im Breisgau, "contemporary (symphonic) music", see Donaueschingen Festival
- a Rundfunkorchester Kaiserslautern for rather "lighter", rather "entertaining" (classical) music (from some works of Mozart to "Operette", operetta). Now Deutsche Radio Philharmonie Saarbrücken Kaiserslautern. --Schwab7000 (talk) 12:54, 14 August 2013 (UTC)Reply
