"His regiment"
editThe text includes two references: "He entered the army in 1853, and became lieutenant in the 85th regiment"
"At the time of his death he was beginning work on the records of his own regiment, the 80th foot."
Presumably only one of these can be correct. Which is it? I imagine consulting the army lists of 1853 -1863 would clear this up. JF42 (talk) 14:39, 29 December 2022 (UTC)

Since there has been no mention of a dictionary previously at this point in the article, which follows on from the posthumously published collaboration with Burges-Short, it seems some text has been lost from the beginning of this paragraph; presumably a reference to the Dictionary of National Biography, referred to later on in the article.
