Did You Know
A fact from this article appeared on Wikipedia's Main Page in the "Did you know?" column on April 3, 2010.
The text of the entry was: Did you know ... that Broadway performer Idina Menzel's casting in the Glee episode "Hello" followed a fan campaign based on her resemblance to series star Lea Michele?

Delay for next week

edit

Glee will return next week and the upcoming episode will be air on 9:28 pm (8:28 in Central time) instead of regular 9:00 pm airing time because of the recent save in season nine of American Idol. ApprenticeFan talk contribs 02:10, 8 April 2010 (UTC)Reply

Thanks - this is already mentioned in the article under "Production". Frickative 03:05, 8 April 2010 (UTC)Reply

Not to Wikipedia Standards

edit

A lot of the articles for 'Glee' episodes are getting out of hand. People are inserting irrelevant, uncited pieces of original research (an example would be: "Glee fans had previously lobbied for Menzel to be cast as Rachel's biological mother, due to the strong resemblance between Menzel and Michele." Totally irrelevant and not something that can be supported).

In addition to this Wikipedia articles on individual TV episodes are discouraged, but if they are created they are expected to be concise and not filled with trivia. Yet some of the 'Glee' episode pages run longer than a number of articles on other topics. The introductory paragraph is usually actually three or four paragraphs, the plot summary is often overly long and detailed, as is the production section and the reception section is often a veritable essay on critical response! It's absolutely nonsensical. An introductory paragraph should be just that: A paragraph. It should note the name of the episode, link to the show's main article, contain the original air date and give a very brief (one sentence usually suffices) outline of the plot. A plot summary should never exceed three paragraphs and should not be a blow-by-blow cover of every scene; just significant plot points please. The production section shouldn't exceed two paragraphs and should only include information that makes the production of this particular episode stand out from the production of other episodes (i.e. significant cast changes or guest performers); it is not a section for reams of 'on-the-set' anecdotes, cited or otherwise. And the reception section should summarise the viewing figures (in a sentence or two; NOT a whole paragraph!), offer a sentence which summarises the general consensus of critics (ideally cited from a review aggregator, of which there are plenty, as making the judgement call yourself could be considered OR) and cite a few (maybe three?) reviews from significant critics. There is no need for a detailed breakdown of each review, just a single quote that captures the general feeling of the review; you will, of course, have to cite the review to quote it and you can also cite others as well at the end of the section; because you are citing these reviews it will be possible for Wikipedia users to link to the full reviews very easily hence why it is unneccessary to virtually copy the entire review. Again the reception section should not exceed two paragraphs.

I suspect much of this is down to over zealous fans of the show. In which case I ask them kindly to respect the rules and regulations of Wikipedia. This is an online encyclopaedia, not a fan site; it is here to document recorded fact and is not a place to be passionate. Wiki is open source and I am sure a Glee wiki would be welcomed with open arms by the fan community, but please try and follow the rules of this website and don't attempt to turn the Glee articles here into a fansite.

Beginning tomorrow I shall begin a major cleanup of all the articles (beginning with the episodes, then I will move on to the smaller satellite articles before finally tackling the main show page) to bring it in line with Wikipedia standards. Anyone who would like to offer help: it will be greatly received. Thank you. 89.240.45.68 (talk) 11:18, 17 April 2010 (UTC)Reply

I'm a bit baffled by your entire message, to be honest. Per WP:LEAD, the introduction should summarise the key points of the entire article. The plot summary is not a blow by blow of the episode - it's 2 paragraphs and less than 400 words, perfectly within the plot summary guidelines of 100 words per ten minutes of air time - as are the plot summaries in all Glee episode articles. The information on fans lobbying for Menzel's casting is neither original research nor uncited - a reference was provided which you yourself deleted. There is no guideline whatsoever that I am aware of restricting the length of production or reception sections, and in absolutely no instance are there quotes used here which virtually copy entire reviews. I am sure your intentions are well meaning, but do note that every one of the episode articles from "Pilot" though to "Sectionals" have been assessed by an array of independent editors as meeting GA standards. It's great that you're so passionate about maintaining standards on Wikipedia, but your comments are rather disingenuous, and do not accurately reflect the state of the majority of Glee episode articles.
