Collage to make things democratic

There are other heads of state, and featuring just one just doesn't work. There is also Donald Trump, representing the United States, and Xi Jinping representing China. -Inowen (nlfte) 03:13, 15 August 2018 (UTC)

Heads of state ('national leaders'):
Perhaps the collage could be re-ordered by seniority? Trump, with less than two years up, could assume a less prominent place than some of those who hold more seniority. --Pete (talk) 02:11, 28 September 2018 (UTC)
IMHO, the lone image of Elizabeth II should be restored, as she's the longest serving current head of state. GoodDay (talk) 13:35, 29 September 2018 (UTC)
It would be nice to include Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II as Queen of the Commonwealth (not just the United Kingdom). I suppose this would also show that a head of state can be head of multiple states. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 150.107.173.64 (talk) 08:18, 6 October 2018 (UTC)

'Queen of the United Kingdom'

I think that there are a couple of issues here. First, the picture of the Queen is not that used on her own profile (like many, if not all, of the other heads-of-state here). I do not find the one here aesthetically pleasing at all, and the other seems, to me at least, to be much better. Also, there is no reference, in her caption there, to the fact that she is not just the head-of-state of the United Kingdom, but also several other large and small countries. I feel that these changes would be helpful, and I invite feedback. 81.98.161.139 (talk) 17:00, 20 February 2019 (UTC)

I've no objection to using "Queen of the United Kingdom and 15 other Commonwealth realms". The reason UK is the only one shown, is because it's the realm that Elizabeth II is mostly recognized with & also it's less cumbersome in the infobox. I'm inviting @Skyring: to this discussion, as I believe he also has interest in this topic. GoodDay (talk) 17:28, 20 February 2019 (UTC)

Lead image

The lead image for this article is currently a gallery of heads of state. I notice it gets edited a lot with different heads of state being swapped in and out; I don't see any set inclusion criteria. The current gallery is quite Western-centric. I would propose either eliminating the lead image and just having the politics sidebar, or alternatively using a photograph of multiple heads of state gathered together (i.e. at an international forum). Ivar the Boneful (talk) 18:01, 1 May 2019 (UTC)

Seconded, for eliminating the lead image in favor of the politics sidebar. It may be difficult to find a picture of all heads of state (excluding heads of government acting as de facto heads of state, i.e. constitutional monarchy prime ministers), nor do I think that particular option would solve the problem of Western-centrism you bring up. Eliaszjm (talk) 15:14, 2 May 2019 (UTC)
I third the proposal for eliminating the photograph entirely and agree with many of the points made, which I also made here. I have made the changes accordingly and User:GoodDay the burden is now on you to explain why the photo should stay you as you are outnumbered 3 to 1. DO not revert my change unless you get consensus for it first. Syopsis (talk) 07:15, 3 May 2019 (UTC)

Put the lead image back into the article, IMHO. GoodDay (talk) 20:38, 2 June 2019 (UTC)

I agree, and the assembled portraits should be of the heads of state only of the most populous countries. --SergeWoodzing (talk) 16:32, 3 June 2019 (UTC)
Agreed. - Ryk72 'c.s.n.s.' 23:56, 4 June 2019 (UTC)

I have added back the collage of images of all the current head of states. My argument in favour of this: A) The Head of State article will be more easily understood. For freshers who want to gain knowledge and already know the names of the leaders of leading nations, this will help them to understand the topic more easily as they will be familiar with the roles of such leaders. B) Putting up an old photograph as it was there previously makes no sense. They new generation doesn't relate to them. They relate to leaders of this generation. Thus , there photos improve the article. Thanks. Kindly consider the points rationally. Tigerboy4555 (talk) 07:43, 21 September 2019 (UTC)

The existing images still have the problem of being arbitrary, and they're clearly Western-biased. I've changed it to the suggestion above of including only the most populous countries, which SergeWoodzing and Ryk72 agreed with. Ivar the Boneful (talk) 08:02, 21 September 2019 (UTC)
To clarify, my agreement was with the statement by GoodDay Put the lead image back into the article, IMHO. I'm not yet certain about including only the most populous nations. The reasoning has a definite attraction, not least because it gives a clear inclusion criterion, but the result seems unbalanced. - Ryk72 talk 00:27, 22 September 2019 (UTC)
Also, the leading images are all republican heads of state. There should be a few monarchial heads of state, too. GoodDay (talk) 13:15, 21 September 2019 (UTC)
Agreed. I think Elizabeth II should be included, given both the number of nations for which she is Head of State, and the high level of international recognisability. And perhaps either Naruhito, Emperor of Japan or Abdullah II of Jordan. In addition to democratically elected republican & monarchial heads of state, I think we should also include some dictatorial heads of state. I would previously have said Robert Mugabe; perhaps now Kim Jong-un. - Ryk72 talk 00:27, 22 September 2019 (UTC)
Yup. GoodDay (talk) 00:30, 22 September 2019 (UTC)

First sentance

I would propose to take words "national" and "sovereign" out of the first sentance "A head of state (or chief of state) is the public persona who officially represents the national unity and legitimacy of a sovereign state.".

I argue because neither a national identity, nor sovereignity is needed to have heads of states. Nsae Comp (talk) 12:21, 7 October 2019 (UTC)

More representative

I have replaced a presidential image with a monarchical one, because there are way too many presidential images in comparison with a monarchical image (8 presidents vs 1 monarch)! 211.51.87.104 (talk) 16:57, 1 May 2020 (UTC)

Naruhito

@KingCub101: @DavisAndrew416:, there's already been passed discussions over whether the emperor of Japan is a head of state. There wasn't any 'clear' conclusion. GoodDay (talk) 14:02, 18 August 2020 (UTC)

Air Transport Catagory

This article does not seem to fit into the catagory Air Transport for Head of State, as it is not talking about the Air Transport nature. OD1 ByHL (talk) 02:05, 21 October 2020 (UTC)

Tasmania & New South Australia

Should the governor of Tasmania & governor of New South Wales be added into infobox or other parts of this article? GoodDay (talk) 19:10, 12 August 2021 (UTC)
