Species IUCN Classification edit

Is it normal wikipedia terms to use the IUCN classification in such ways for subspecies? The Hawaiian hoary bat is here listed an EN (IUCN 3.1) because the subspecies is considered and listed in the US as EN. However, the IUCN does not consider subspecies and lists the species (hoary bat) as LC. As a consequence, shouldn't this subspecies be listed at LC (IUCN 3.1). Else, it is misleading for the reader, isn't it? (March 3, 2014) — Preceding unsigned comment added by 126.254.214.6 (talk) 03:46, 3 March 2014 (UTC)Reply

DoneI have addressed this concern by changing the conservation status system from IUCN to ESA (US Endangered Species Act). I think listing the Hawaiian hoary bat as least concern would not be appropriate, given its conservation importance in the US due to the ESA.Enwebb (talk) 00:15, 29 April 2017 (UTC)Reply

Taxonomic revision edit

I'm going to change this page from Lasiurus semotus to Lasiurus cinereus semotus. The Baird et al. (2015) paper referenced for elevating the Hawaiian hoary bat did not appear to gain traction. This taxa is most recently referred to as a subspecies of the hoary bat, and it is not currently recognized as a species by the US Fish and Wildlife Service or the IUCN.
