Hall & OatesDaryl Hall & John Oates – The encyclopedia entry for a band name should follow the actual title of the band name for clarity's sake. Readers researching the band Darryl Hall and John Oates will find the official band name used in Allmusic.com, Discogs.com, Spotify.com, and many other places online where they consume the music or information about the band. Wikipedia's article title "Hall & Oates" creates unnecessary confusion around the name of the musical act, just as an article about The Rolling Stones titled "The Stones" would create unnecessary confusion. 135.180.126.4 (talk) 23:28, 15 June 2023 (UTC)

What name do you propose?—blindlynx 00:16, 16 June 2023 (UTC)
I propose "Daryl Hall & John Oates", which, as I noted above, is the name used by both the band and prominent online sources like Allmusic.com, Spotify.com, and Discogs.com. It's not simply a matter of honoring the band's wishes...it's not 1985 anymore. People seeking out information about them are likely learning about them online. They didn't grow up hearing disc jockeys using the group's nickname. They might not have grown up in a country where anyone under 50 has ever heard of the group, or even many people over 50. For all the old fans who are used to "Hall & Oates", a simple redirect will get them to the right place with no friction. 135.180.126.4 (talk) 03:58, 16 June 2023 (UTC)
  • Oppose move. The common name remains Hall & Oates. O.N.R. (talk) 07:53, 16 June 2023 (UTC)
  • Oppose: Not the WP:COMMONNAME, see Google Trends, Ngram Viewer. This is a perennial proposal with several previous discussions against it. There's even an FAQ entry about it!MaterialWorks ping me! 18:21, 16 June 2023 (UTC)
  • Oppose per common name, the ngrams provided above, and so as to not offset the name Garfunkel and Oates (who have probably surpassed the originals in recent and current-culture name recognition). Wikipedia should have a list of "no more RM's" for perennials and other topics which are listed two, three, or more times in drawn out deletion lotteries ("maybe this time not enough editors will show up..."). Comment/response: Lol, as much as I love Garfunkel and Oates (and as iconic as Kate Micucci is as a voice actor), Garfunkel and Oates probably haven't surpassed the originals in name recognition, lol. Paintspot Infez (talk) 21:35, 17 June 2023 (UTC)
Maybe not, but someday...would be nice if Art Garfunkel and John Oates made a video with them (have they? if so, make another!). Randy Kryn (talk) 13:38, 18 June 2023 (UTC)
Oppose per above. QuietHere (talk | contributions) 01:45, 21 June 2023 (UTC)
  • Oppose, obvious WP:COMMONNAME. Even their official website uses the common name of Hall & Oates (hallandoates.com). Andygray110 (talk) 16:08, 21 June 2023 (UTC)
