I think this is the right building. But the title, "Student Health Centre", which is used in British Listed Buildings On-line, is confusing. Grove House is not the student health centre, and has not been at least since the 1970s, if ever (ascertained by talking with staff at Grove House). However, the listing is of 1963 and no member of staff at Grove House worked there before the 80s. It is 316-324 Oxford Road, at the junction with Dilworth Street, as Pevsner (2004) says, and it corresponds with both the Pevsner and the BLBO descriptions. Confirmation would be most helpful. I will then amend the Grade II* listed buildings in Manchester page to read Grove House and amend the title of the article page. Unless I'm wrong, in which case I shall need help to scrap the article.

In H. B. Charlton's Portrait of a University, 1851-1951 in appendix VI p. 169 "Nearer to the University by some 100 yards from the Infirmary, and on the opposite side of the Oxford Road, a building recently acquired, nos. 316-324 Oxford Road, will, by 1951, house the University Press and the Appointments Board. This also is not shown on the plan." It would make sense if the student health centre was there at the time of listing. The plans of the university in 1888, 1911 and 1950 in that book give dates (not always right) for most of the buildings.--Felix Folio Secundus (talk) 10:47, 10 September 2011 (UTC)Reply

P.S. Student Health Centre may not be the best title as the lead begins with a more useful one. If it is renamed perhaps the Grade II* Manchester article should refer to both names somehow. The above suggestion about the "original names" is unlikely. The streets before the building of the halls of residence do not have a Thorncliffe Grove but a few other "Grove" names like Oxford Grove. More likely is naming it after an earlier Grove House which preceded the Whitworth Art Gallery: it is mentioned in Hartwell Manchester (Pevsner Architectural Guides.) p. 312 as being a temporary art gallery from 1889 onwards.--Felix Folio Secundus (talk) 20:44, 17 September 2011 (UTC)Reply
